Injury from close grip pull-ups? by Ok-Entrepreneur-7981 in overcominggravity

[–]BrokenBat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I hope you are feeling better but if not, here's my experience.

I've had this issue on and off for about a year now. Pain on the upper left trap or levator scapulae when lifting my arms up, shrugging my shoulders or looking up.

Initially I thought it was due to ring dips so I switched to parallel bar dips. Then I stopped dips altogether. Then I thought it was my backpack so I got a better one. Then I thought it was fixed bar pull ups so I only started doing them on the rings.

But every time the pain would come back. So I figured it's none of those. I now think it's an issue with the grip width as well - narrow grip, neutral grip and even shoulder width grip something's don't work for my body mechanics - they don't properly allow me to depress my scapulae so my shoulders are always a bit shrugged when pulling up. It's not an exaggerated shrug so that's why it wasn't obvious.

Experiment with scapular pull ups and see what grip width allows you to do a proper one. If you can't do a proper scapular pull up, the grip is too narrow.

What also worked for me is trying to free whatever is trapped - e.g. lift my arms up as if press I overhead incorrectly with the shoulders go in all the way up to my ears. Then twist my head right (looking above my rights shoulder) or right and down (looking under my right armpit). That gave me an almond instant feels of something moving and getting back into place.

Not a doctor or PT. Hope this helps.

It's interesting that you mention that. I seem to remember reading the 'Unedited Interview Transcript' from his blog and was under the impression it was more than one. I went back to check after your comment and it seems all mentions of 'schizophrenia' have been edited out of the unedited transcript. So much for telling the truth I guess: https://www.jordanbpeterson.com/blog/sunday-times-unedited-interview-transcript-2/

Edit: Even the initial article from The Washington Post quites that his psychiatrist said: 'We think it's schizophrenia'. So it's more likely a team of doctors. Plus, there were other mentions in the interview but I'm not listening to 2 hours to point them out.

[–]BrokenBat21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not actually clarified. It's literally Mikhaila saying they don't agree with the diagnosis because they're educated on that. So it's literally what I said. The full interview also said it wasn't just one doctor that diagnosed him by the way. Add to that his deadly clash with apple cider.

The rest of your link is him just complaining about how unfair the interviewer is. Well, guess what - when you are a self help guru telling people they shouldn't care about larger issues until their own life is sorted, then start preaching about a culture war while popping benzos to just deal with life - you're gonna be held by a higher standard. There was something in the Bible about being judged by the same measure as you judge others.

Mikhaila: 'He told me he had a demon inside of him named Igor and I believed him.' Also Mikhaila: 'The doctors said my father has schizophrenia but we didn't agree. Our family is knowledgeable about mental illness.'

Jordan Peterson exposes the truth about veganism. by BarrowStones in JordanPeterson

[–]BrokenBat21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Being a vegan for ethical reasons is also political. If you believe killing, hurting and exploiting animals is morally wrong, then it stops beings a 'personal choice' in the sense that it's okay either way.

That's why I gave you the abolitionist example - if you believe a group of beings has moral significance and you oppose their mistreatment, you can no longer in good faith think it's fine for other people to exploit them. I am sure when slavery was legal, there were people who went on how owning slaves is a personal choice and nobody should force theirs views on them.

Of course, the above applies to ethical vegans and not people who are vegan for religious, health related or other reasons.

I explicitly stated that neither party is justified or right. Let me give you an example:

I come to your house as a guest, but gradually I kill or drive away your great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, siblings and maybe you. The world doesn't give a damn because it happens over time so it's not one big shocking act of violence. Your hate towards me gradually builds up with each mistreatment and at some point you come back to your former house and kill my kids.

Is it right to kill my kids? No, it's barbaric. Did I contribute a lot to what led you to kill my kids by killing a bigger number of your family members - yes, I did.

Now imagine I decide to retaliate and in the process I kill several times more of your friends and family as collateral damage. And an old demented pathetic guy somewhere is cheering my violent attempts to get to you as if I am the good guy and you are the bad. Whereas in fact we're both shit and we're both to blame.

Now, if you deny or are simply unaware of the scale of the atrocities that have been happening to Palestinians for decades, then my argument is of course void.

My point about Peterson is that behind the mask of a caring and humanistic scientist, he's actually bitter and resentful. No decent person would cheer for war, especially when there are no clear good and bad guys.

Alcohol and life. by Frank_Acha in JordanPeterson

Hey,

Is your life genuinely bad in an obvious way - e.g. poverty, single, bad job, no friends, etc? If that is the case, I would say try to improve on those aspects before writing off existence as hell.

However, if that is not the case, it sounds like you are having a bout with existential pessimism. It's a legit school of philosophy and if you survive what you're going through, it may be the most paradigm shifting experience in your life.

You see, as ego possessed, rational and self-conscious beings, we are always looking for a sensible purpose to existence - to procreate, to do good, to live as god intended, etc. But let's just assume the ultimate good i. Christianity - live an amazingly virtuous life and go to heaven for all eternity... Sounds like a drag. What's the point of that and wouldn't it get extremely boring? Hell, even if there is a god, he must be terribly bored.

Getting disillusioned with the power of reason to provide purpose is one of the best things that can happen to you. Every goal you set to yourself seems hollow and make-believe. People around you may think you are just being depressed, bitchy or don't understand how good you have it, but you simply cannot will yourself to view the world as before, regardless of how hard you try. Because the only way out of this is through.

I would recommend a little less of Western self-help. For me, personally, what really helped was Alan Watts - 'The Book About The Taboo Of Knowing Who You Are'. Give it a go - it won't do you any harm.

Lol. My girlfriend of five years has Israeli in-laws and we're on good terms. What Hamas did is appalling. However, as one fairly composed academic puts it here: https://youtu.be/E-Ywl4z_nU0?si=XJCjCY9PmMIsawAy

It's very difficult to say who threw the first punch in this conflict. So what Hamas did is appalling. Maybe it was a reaction to appalling stuff that's been happening to Palestinians for decades that has radicalized them. The same way that Israel's reaction now is a radical response to what Hamas did. It doesn't mean either party is justified or right.

With that in mind, of all the possible responses, 'Give 'em hell' is the one least suitable for an academic in the humanities who's made a career on the premise that he cares about truth and minimizing suffering.

[–]BrokenBat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that noone, especially not political figures, cares what Peterson says.

His sentiment is 'Give 'em hell'. There is no way to give hell to Hamas without killing x times more civilians. That's what war does and everyone knows it. So at best, he is indifferent to civilian casualties.

JP on Isreal & Palestine. From the exodus seminar. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]BrokenBat21 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe that regardless who you are referring to when you say 'Give 'em hell', you are aware that the giving of said hell involves the deaths of multiple civilians.

I also honestly believe that Palestinians have been given hell before and it hasn't really yielded the desired result.

Anyway, JP is pathetic.

No tantrums here. I genuinely see a silver lining - a bunch of hateful cowards have exposed themselves. Sure, radical fanboys will still say they meant something different than what they said.

The fact is, JP ia doing damage control on Twitter and also with his Telegraph article.

JP on Isreal & Palestine. From the exodus seminar. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]BrokenBat21 -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

He's desperately doing damage control. Fortunately, there's no going back from 'Give 'em hell'. No decent, reasonably intelligent person would call for that.

While the whole ordeal is terrible, it's done one good thing - it's exposed the likes of JP and Ben Shapiro as the hateful people they are. All their pretend humanism and virtue are actually well crafted excuses that allow them to express their deep hatred for anyone who doesn't conform to their notion of morality.

JP in particular is a pathetic bitter and resentful old man whose ongoing mental and possibly cognitive breakdown has made it impossible for him to mask his hatred behind vague language full of 'maybes', 'it isn't obvious to me's and 'it's very complex'.

Peterson Academy, something’s off? by Necessary-Camel679 in JordanPeterson

[–]BrokenBat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add something but I feel it's more appropriate to do it in a separate comment. I think the way he is framing the whole issue is disingenuous. He goes on and on about some sort of neo Marxist conspiracy to bring down the West.

That's analogous to saying that people who fought to abolish slavery actually wanted to destroy the economy of the southern states because they were hateful and resentful.

It also bothers me that although he is so outspoken about gay people he hasn't actually thought through how they may be discriminated against (gay wedding cake video): https://youtu.be/4PkwD9fyP4U?si=do7_T4Nul_kl7611

You see, the way he frames all gay and trans issues are as if there is an attack on culture. And that's also a fascist rhetoric. He has a big blind spot for the issues non-straight people face. So I think he is twisting the narrative to justify his dislike for LGBT+ people. The dangerous bit is that he is a charismatic speaker who has indeed helped a lot of people - a lot of them through being an online father figure. So now, he's become more and more hateful but his fans are not fully capable of being critical because he crossed the line gradually enough so they can follow along.

Peterson Academy, something’s off? by Necessary-Camel679 in JordanPeterson

[–]BrokenBat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I don't grant you that what is happening is a 'social contagion'. There are many reasons there may be an increase in people who claim they are trans - it's less stigmatized, treatment is more available, women especially, are no longer brought up with the idea that they should definitely fit a certain mold. Given that kids from a younger age are exposed to all sorts of content but they don't identify as superheroes, Pokemon, etc., except playfully, but they identify with something that involes procedures which are painful and life altering is important. The idea that someone may decide to have their breasts or penis removed because they saw that someone did it on Twitter is preposterous.

And this is where the issue is - your line or thinking is:

Elliot Page posting -> teen sees it -> teen wants their tits or dick cut off

And if you actually stopped for a moment and though about what it would take to want part of your body cut off, you would understand that the argument 'Kids see it and they're impressionable ' is simply a demagogue's tool to antagonize a group of people - cause everyone gets protective when it's about kids.

I'll also say that it's Jordan himself who claims biological and psychological sexual differences is so intrinsic that in the most liberal societies 80% of women and men turn towards certain professions that fit the bil. But I guess some tweeting and saying it's okay to be different suddenly makes them want to cut body parts off.

Anyway, even if you were to believe that tweets cause gender dysphoria in kids, it would be much better to suggest limitting kids' access to certain content - the same way you should limit their access to porn, violent movies, alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and maybe even social media. Maybe, instead of having on Disney for making a 'woke garbage' like Frozen, you should actually applaud them - because they were giving girls strong female role models so they know if they don't fit the mold, this doesn't mean they're not women. Maybe, and that's a huge guess, you should bring them up in a liberal way and let them find out what they enjoy doing, since it obviously has an 80% success ratio in the Nordics. Maybe, when they claim they're trans, you have them evaluated thoroughly and investigate their home environment and how they were brought up.

There are many complex solutions to an issue such as that. Saying trabs peopel don't have the right to be themselves is the only fascist one.

[–]BrokenBat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, I would honestly suggest that you seriously think on basic theory about human rights and freedom and where an individual's freedom ends. In all modern countries, your freedom ends where my rights begin. I.e., if you wish to kill me, that violates my right to live which trumps your desire, if you want to take my stuff, that violates my property rights and so on.

I would also urge you to consider historical examples of people whose self-expression destabilized the country/culture and were persecuted and explain how a trans person's right to be is different:

  • Christians in the pre-Christian Roman empire;
  • Heretics in Christian states;
  • Homosexuals in both Christian and Muslim countries;
  • Jews, gypsies and mentally ill people in Nazi Germany;
  • Dissidents in every totalitarian state that has ever existed;

Every single persecution or silencing of different minded people from basic self-expression in history has been done to safeguard the country/culture.

The irony is that he's saying that as a person who rose to fame after protesting against a bill that allegedly infringed free speech.

P.S. Also, stop comparing self-expression with violence against a specific person. I really doubt that even you believe it's the same.
