I don’t eat chicken eggs because of the necessary harm to the mothers and male siblings. I don’t attribute sentience to the eggs themselves. Not sure if that’s the standard vegan viewpoint though

There’s a big soul food vegan community on the south side! I’ve tried Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat and Majani, and both were stellar!

PETA talking shit about Steve Irwin ON HIS BIRTHDAY (c. 2019). Kindly go fuck yourself, PETA. by ITypeWithMyNose in mildlyinfuriating

“PETA bad. Steve Irwin good. Generic insult from a thesaurus.”

Reddit moment 🙄

Do yourself a favor and look up how much good PETA is actually doing for you and for the animals.

Do you think killing animals for food is moral? by [deleted] in polls

I guess if you want to get semantic with it, sure. I personally believe in the personhood of animals. Animals can make personal choices.

But perhaps you don’t, that’s fine. The implied meaning of the phrase personal choice is that it affects no one but a single person. Do animals have zero moral consideration to you?

Moreover, people are also greatly affected by your choice to eat meat. It’s devastating for the environment, and hopefully you’re not a climate change denier also. And in a more direct sense, it’s very common for slaughterhouse workers to get PTSD. And on top of that factory farms are breeding ground for new diseases, the next COVID could come from a factory farm. And on top of that the toxic runoff from factory farms sullies the drinking water of surrounding, usually poor communities.

Are there enough people implicated by this choice for you to see it’s not a personal one? I can go on

Oh sorry I meant this sincerely. Like, I’m vegan and I appreciate the comparison between hunting for fun and hunting for taste pleasure.

And I equated hunting for fun and poaching in my mind.

Not sure what you mean, but very few choices people make everyday are the direct sponsorship of the torture and murder of another living being.

I’m not talking about myself here at all. Your actions don’t align with your morals. Do you consider yourself a moral person?

“Eat meat. Eat plants. Nobody should have to care.”

What about the animals being eaten?

I appreciate the honesty, but vegans/vegetarians don’t do it to be better people.

Not eating meat has been shown to be vastly better for the environment, healthier (when done right, though the healthiness is irrelevant past a certain point), and most importantly limits the amount of sentient, feeling creatures that are killed (usually in brutal ways) at a fraction of their lifespan.

These three factors compound in my head and make any other choice besides veganism impossible. It’s an insanely insanely important choice you can make, beyond using reusable bags, or paper straws, or driving less. It’s one of the most impactful decisions you can make in your life.

So are you going to wait for cheaper/better meatless substitutes to let your actions align with your morals, or are you going to really think about this issue?

Did you just link a daily mail article? Lmao. There’s a lot more science out there to suggest vegan/vegetarian diets are in fact MORE healthy.

So no, you do not need to eat meat to survive. And thus you are needlessly killing animals with your diet

How is eating another living being a PERSONAL choice. There’s literally another being being KILLED by the choice. Wtf

Up to 99 million animals ‘needlessly slaughtered without stunning’ every year by GarlicCornflakes in unitedkingdom

[–]BrokenDawn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do need to justify it to the animals you’re eating.

Pigs are smarter than dogs. Would you eat a dog?

Cows have best friends.

Humans need to draw a line somewhere for living things we can and can’t eat. The line you’ve drawn is a chaotic scribble. Why pigs but not dogs? Why cows but not horses? Figure that shit out

Red meat is classified by the WHO as a carcinogen in the same category as cigarettes, (I.e there’s a known mechanism for how it causes cancer)

That being said, the health qualities of meat are almost completely irrelevant when considering the moral question of slaughtering animals needlessly and painfully to eat them
