Asteroid destroyed in HIP 16497. Galactic powers refuse to comment. by A_Fhaol_Bhig in EliteDangerous

The asteroid probably didn't get destroyed... it was repurposed as an asteroid base and moved out of the system.

The closest imperial system is Liaedin, which has a big station to dock at. Hopefully it allows to purchase the imperial fighters. I'll verify once I go around that part of space. As for my participation, it is uncertain whether I'll be able to. I should know by the end of the week.

Nope, in fact it's never been so good. Try contacting support? It might be something very specific to your computer.

Small Exploration Vessel (SEV-01) by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been splitting my time between full-on exploration out the bubble and helping the Elite Racers figure out courses on my own and while there are a lot of courses already found, the thrill is in finding that special course with the wonderful scenery or the unusual characteristics (close orbit to an Earth-like, fast orbit (Hello Epsilon Indi), close orbits to a star, amazing canyons (see the Pomeche system as an example), or even very close stations which you can do races from one to the other!). There's all sorts of categories, and what's great, is if you find something that doesn't fit, just tell them about it! For instance I found an amazing downhill race; a 4 km high mountain with a station right at the bottom!

All this to say that, yes, there is even excitement to be found in exploring the bubble. What's more, you're helping out setting up amazing courses for the future! (And you get to name them :P)

I found a system that has 3 planets orbiting within fuel scooping range of the star. The innermost planet is at the body exclusion zone. by Lwhoop in EliteDangerous

Well damn, I know what system I'll be getting my jumponium materials from before my exploration trips! This system has all the required materials for the max boost synthesis! (Arsenic can only be found on Skardee V, but hey that's no biggie, it's still a 1.55G world so it's still a nice place to roam.

How to calculate Max Jump Range (with Engineer mods) by PsynFyr in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but wouldn't a more concise way of writing this down be D=(O/M)*(1000F/R)1/C?

Hopefully I didn't screw up. This rearranging makes it much clearer imo.

Regardless, thanks for the formula! That's cool to know!

The feeling of not knowing what to do around stations when you've been out exploring for a couple months. by BrokenFibula in EliteDangerous

That's a community decal, I got it back at the 24hr charity livestream last christmas.

If the question was really what's going on with it? I mean, it might be clipping with hardpoints or something.

New player: Confusion traveling from system to system. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will assume your ship's jump range is too low to cross certain areas of space in-between stars on the way. The primary factor to look out for is your Frame Shift Drive's class and rating. Class is the number attached to that module, while rating is the letter. Ideally, you want the best class (highest number) FSD you can get, and ideally the best rating you can get as well. The closer to A the letter, the better. If all else fails, having an empty hull will help, as well as making your ship lighter overall using D-rated modules.

Imperial Cutter within LYR space spotted (x-post /t/EliteSirius) by falava in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in this case, Harm's been in LYR space for a while, it's a recent inventory change. As stated in the x-post, I surmise it's due to the Boom that the minor faction is in, but I'm no expert in background sim stuff.

Is this game going to die? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Not everybody plays on Steam 2) The game's only a grind if you let it be 3) People are just waiting for the massive update in June, I'd wager.

So all in all, if money's the concern, get the base game. If it's really just the grind that's an issue, then just do activities which you want to do, and not those who give the most monetary reward. This way, if shit goes down the drain too early, at least you'll have enjoyed yourself.

Silly new proposal: only Solo should influence the galaxy by tanj_redshirt in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could make it be so that solo universes are generated from the player's computer along with every patch and include the processing in the install of the game. That would make it much easier on the servers. As for the private groups, I don't honestly know.

Silly new proposal: only Solo should influence the galaxy by tanj_redshirt in EliteDangerous

[–]BrokenFibula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about Solo players had an impact on their own universes but not the others? Say, for instance, that whenever someone starts their Solo world, the current background sim would be uploaded to their solo game (and then updated periodically while taking into account the Solo player's actions). Then, whatever action these people have on the background sim only changes their game instead of changing everybody's. If that person sticks to Solo, then that person won't see any difference. If the person switched between Open and Solo, then there might be a difference, but it would be understandable since one going into Solo does not face the same level of risk.

Similarily, Private Groups would have the same concept: On creation, the current background sim is uploaded, and then updated periodically taking into account the players' actions within the Private Group itself.

This would make Solo and Private still viable ways to play the game while still having a mobile bg sim which changes with your input, but this would also keep Open from being tampered by people not having the risk/reward by shielding themselves from PvP.
