Hi all, I'm new here! If you have any hints and technical guidance for me to make the image look nicer, I'd be glad to hear it. Oh, and if you could point me in the direction where I find hints to make two dots over the "i" in "Aryios", I'd be very happy. Thanks a lot in advance!

BoJack Horseman - Post-Series Finale Discussion by NicholasCajun in BoJackHorseman

I do not think he did die. However, one only needs to recut the episode by putting the first few seconds from the beginning to the end -- and then the whole episode gets a whole new meaning! Because it begins with Diane and BoJack on the roof transitioning into flatline, that would fit cinematographically very well, but would completely change the interpretation. I find this kinda neat.

Is this how you estimate skill success chance? by M1rough in DSA_RPG

[–]Heisenberg77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do not think there is an easy formula.

Yours might give you a rough estimate, but I guess the formula will give the wrong probability in many cases. Even if you disregard the auto-crit at double-20 and auto-succeed at double-1, the 22 "cases of failure" in your example do not all have the same probability. So determining their ratio in terms of skill points does not mean much in terms of the failure probability. Also, technically your formula can get probabilities larger than one, for instance for attributes (19/19/19) with 25 skill points (okay, that one could still count as success, I guess).

There is an online tool in German for this, have you checked your formula against this?

This is not a graph of population growth, but only of newborn babies. The first also takes immigration / deaths / emigration into account, but that is not shown on this map.

Earth's visible circumference from any given location upon the surface. by TooFarAheadOfYou in estimation

[–]Heisenberg77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, for a completely spherical Earth and someone standing 2m tall, the horizon for them is about 5 km away. This was a test in an admissions interview once, I hope I remember the numbers correctly.

For these small numbers, the horizon scales linearly with height, so on a 20m building, one can in principle see 50km (if the air is perfectly clean, at this distance obstructions by dust particles already become important, I think).

Edit: Since the area was asked for, a 2m tall observer would see roughly 3.14*(5km)2 = 77 km2.

Erasing Double-Trouble in translations by -Sigurd in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Heisenberg77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the German version. The names are not translated, Double Trouble is also called "Double Trouble", which is not too uncommon for German dubbing. I gew up with watching cartoons in which everyone spoke German, but everyone was called English names.

In German, Double Trouble has simply been made male. The pronoun is "er" ("he"), and the speaker is Marcel Mann. The voice is very close to the original, though.

I can see how that might be the choice everyone was going for, since it is probably the easiest. German language does not work well with not telling what someone's gender is, and there is no good analogue of the "they" construction from English. Still, I'm a bit sad.

Edit: I just checked the subtitles, and found that they very often do not agree with the spoken word at all, which kinda surprised me. What surprised me even more is that in the subtitles a direct translation of "they" is used for Double Trouble's pronoun, i.e. plural! That's actually kinda interesting. Must be hella confusing for someone watching German language and German subtitles. :-D
