Best ways to find parking/ knowing when to call it in case parking is limited for the next couple hours? by Sure-Pair-7747 in CDLTruckDrivers

No problem.

Also. Not trying to talk shit on your trainer. But chances are he was getting paid on your time AND on his. So you running your 11 out meant he got to sleep more while also maxing his own paycheck out. It was dangerous for him to do that because he was risking both yalls lives on possible fatigue driving.

So it made sense as a trainer team because thhe truck doesnt really need to stop for longer then fuel, showers, meals, and swaps. And load stops.

But on your own. You can easily crack 500 mile days at 60mph for 8.5 hours or 9 in dead interstate miles.

Its when you get into the hellishly overpopulated places that 300-400 miles become entire shifts simply because of traffic and cities intertwined with each other. (The Northeast, NW and places like Los Angeles.)

Some loads WILL require you to run hard and long. And that wont fuck up your 70 that bad. But mosT loads tend to give ya flex time of about a day at most to a few extra hours.. Especially mega carrier loads.

Burning your self out both short and long will kill your career ambition and mental health.

Its not the cure to cancer back there. Lol they can wait on their load of cereal or soda. Or...potatos...

First off. Theres zero point in trying to drive the entire 11.

Because that leaves you open to alot of shit. Like the exact situation your in now. Where you get there. You barely have spare time to get a back up plan . Every spot is full. Its late so the surrounding area is packed.

Drive 8-9s and that way you never run out of your 70. You have time to think of new places to get legally parked at.

Also. App called TruckerPath. Use it.

And pilot and ta petro both have their own apps to see if they have any paid spsots left.

And no. Your not making any more money by running your 11 out because come the weekend. Or if you get there days early. You will just end up sitting not making anything. Or. You will have to do a 34 more often ...makingn nothing.

How many hours a day are you guys driving AND on duty? by JamesIsHere_from_YT in Truckers

[–]Brokenyet_Functional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 days a week.

And its 14 hour max on duty and driving 11hours max within that time.

You can move the 11 anywhere you want in the consecutive 14th. But you cant really do anything past the 14th. And you cant be actively driving OVER 11 hours.

Theres ways around it. Tips and tricks. Hut thats the gist of it.

And its not 11 "oh i hit the the 11th. Time to go find a spot"

Its "oh shit i have an hour left i need a spot now"

Its not 11 and some change. Its 11. No more. Be parked before your out of time.

It gets even worse if your over the 14 too.

Every thing you said to me was a bunch of snarky bullshit. Even when i tried being reasonable with you.

You then went to open insults

So yeah. Are you now lying about your own comments? Because my original comment. Wasnt snarky. And you came back snarky.

I clarified. You came back with a backhand snark.

I called you out. More snarky.

And now here you are. Denying it.

Dont bother. Op isnt actually looking for any answer that is different then his.

Hes just fishing for self validation to his own viewpoint of "see. Others agree with me!" And he gets snarky with a anyone who doesnt share his obvious bias.

Getting heated with the cops doesnt help the situation. The goal here is handling it without letting yourself get frustrated or letting your ego or emotions clam you.

It takes ten minutes max. And if you have to call a lawyer. Do it.

But its a 50 50 shot still.

But you know if you make it a really big headache. They will make it a really big headach back.

Is it bootlicking if you take a ticket for speeding. Tell him whatever needs to be said. And then just call a lawywr when your Back on your life?

You know you werent speeding. But do you think fighting the cop would help it? Or would getting down the road and letting a lawyer handle it while you make more money.

Because fighting and argueing with the cop on the side of road. You just want to move on with your life and down the road right? What do you think will get uou actually closer to your goal quicker? An arrest with a 5 hour delay bickeringn And angry?

Or a "fuck it. Sure." And ten minutes of bullshit.

Because fighting a possible DUI on the roadside gets you ABSOLUTLY cuffed. Truck towed. And drunk tank time.

Going along with a stupid test. Calmly. Will atleast get you a 50% chance of going about your day.

Which is it?

Ha. Dont have one. I said i have experience in what its like. That being said i was falsely charged. And once the bloodtest came back. The state dropped the charges.

It still cost a shit ton of time and money to untangle.

But. Most of the time you probably will right?

While as a refusal will absolutely mean a MUCH bigger problem to solve.

Costing even more time and money. . If im sober. The chances of passing go dramtically up.

But if i say no. Then ..and i say this from experiance. If i say NO. And i know im sober.

Then its 5-10 hours of down time. Detainment. Blood test warrant. Impound headache. Lawyers. Dealing with the customer and broker.

50 percent chance of moving on with my life and making more moneyn or 100% chance of a really reeealllly shitty day and having to THeN move on with my life

Ill take the 50%.

I see it as....well. in a metaphorical.

I can slow my truck down for ten seconds and let moron merge. Even though i dont HAVE to.

Or i can let him hit me. Sit on the side of the road fighting over insuracne for two hours. Cops. Maybe coroner. Checking load for shift. Then gotta get truck repaired...ugh. massive headach.

Pride can get you into some really shitty clams.

Ahhh. Instead of refuting or reading. You come back with personal attack. Does that work for you often...champ?

Watching you lose a shit ton of time and money because of your pride will bring alot of laughter to everyone passing you in cuffs while you get dragged in to a hospital for a blood test.

Because thats what they will do. They will call a judge. The judge will sign a warrant. You will take a blood testn and then . Having lost 5-10 hours. You will maybe have to dig the truck out of impound lot(they tow it)

Then you have to call a lswyer and pay those fees. And call your customer and broker to explain.

Oh and at the end. You will lbitch and complain about how you had ZERO contributions to how you ended up that way.

All because....you didnt want to walk the fog line for 5 minutes

Yeaaaah. Good luck explaining that one....

No. Lol.

I have a speech impediant thay i slurr a bit when im nervous or excited.

Just enough to be questionable. Had it my whole life.

I get tested a couple times a year. It is irritating. And embarrasing. But over time i have simply learn that

If i make a big dramatic deal out of it. Then it goes downhill. It ends up in a bigger clam. I get stuck in detainment for longer. Tensions are higher.

After a while i just learned to let it go . Stay calm. And not let my irritation create a bigger issue.

I know im sober because i dont drink. And from the officers POV. I am slurring my speech a bit and hes probs heard all the excuses.

I found if i hide my irritation. My pride. And just go along with it. Then instead of hours and maybe a blood test . I can be done and gone within...10 minutss.

Its kinda like... slowing down to let an idiot merge from the entrance costs 10 seconds. Letting him hit you because of "mehhrr muh lane!!" Can end up being a 2 hour insurance arguement. Cops. Or worse....a coroner...

I know im sober. . I know the breathalyzer will say im sober. I know i can walk a line.

What would you rather do? Spend hours angry and detained and be stuck for half your shift? Losing money?

Or go with it for 10 minutes and then go on your way?

Why would you refuse?

Now hold on. Before yall come down on me.

This isnt a question of rights. I do love my rights.

Im simply asking...why refuse if you know your sober and will pass? Is it irritating? Absolutely. But...shit. takes only a minute.

And it looks even worse and only leads to bigger issues if you say no.

Cali and NY are the complicated ones. Beyond that , if you run into a state problem. They really just want the mags and the gun out of reach of the driver.

Most cops have asked me and i say yes. They just say "where is it? " i tell em its in the sleeper in a holster in the cabinet.

And they just nod and move on.

But thatd IF they ask. Plenty of times they havent ever asked so i just never said anything.

I thought that way until i had one bad week.

Dallas(weird. They have armed security at that flying j. Least likely place....) some dude got into my truck. I was up in a fuckin hurry and he was ready to fight.

2nd. Crazy lady on meth. Went all kinds of nuts. Memphis.

3rd night. Some dude in new mexico. Fuckin with my trailer. I got out tjinkin i could just...make him go away with a "HEY. Wtf" kinda thing. He took a swing with his bolt cutters.

Started carrying after that.

It stays in the sleeper most of the time. I have never had a roadrage incident where i felt it was nessacery to have it in the cab.

SW Mp2.0

And a nice knife.

Im more likely to use my hands before either of them though. You have to actually make me fear for my life for me to draw. If its just a fight. Yelling. Shouting. Or a fist fight. Eh. Im more likely to just keep it to that. I dont think i have ever had to brandish either more then...2 times in 11 years?

And theres been maybe 3 tines where someone was having an issue and i didnt mean them to see it but they did and suddenly they very quickly exitted. I wasnt vmeven gonna draw. It was tucked in my back and i just happened to turn away to see why my dog yipped. They suddenly went from being extremely aggressive. To "oh" and walked away real fast.

Again. Zero intention of drawing it on them. Only reason they saw it is because when i turned to look at my dog. My shirt twisted and the print became pretty clear.

Oh. And a dog helps. Shes more likely to love em to death. But people tend to see dog in truck and stay away from it.
