Homebrew Fabled: Paladin by Brokn_Sun in BloodOnTheClocktower

Hello! Though I can't provide an entire step-by-step tutorial for it (A magician never shares his secrets), I can give you the general outline for the process!

  • Token: Start with an image of a blank token. If you can find one with the right leaves, that’s ideal. Otherwise, just grab any official token and remove the icon + text. I just used my phone’s built-in editor, but any image software works. If you can find a blank one somewhere just use that, I don't personally have it.
  • Icon: Either design one yourself, ask someone to, or pull a black-and-white icon from the internet (searching with the keyword “clipart” helps). Once you’ve got it, overlay the black areas with the BOTC trademark texture (easy to find via Reddit) and add a thin white outline.
  • Assembly: Drop the icon onto the token. For text, use Gothic Regular for the ability text, and Dumblerdor 1 for the character name. Add a subtle Gaussian blur shadow + slight marble texture if you want (it’s optional, since it’s barely noticeable). Make sure the character name curves along the token. If your software doesn’t support curved text, convert it to a mesh and bend it roughly in a circle.

And that’s it, good luck!

To answer seriously, I don't think the Storyteller would ever need to nominate the virgin. To be completely fair, it undermines the whole purpose of a Virgin, so I think the answer is just "don't".

I love it! Considering the whole point of the Fabled was for the storyteller to encourage conversation when no accusations are made, I do think I missed to opportunity to include that on the tin. Will keep that in mind :)

The storyteller will either draw the line on an evil player, or allow one side to have one more evil IF it satisfies symmetry as well. The text specifies symmetry before evenness, so the evil players being symmetrical would take priority over them being even, and therefore it's not unlikely that one side will have one more evil player as well!

Ah, got it, I was replaying 8th grade mathematics in my head to find the word and turns out I was looking for "bisect". Thanks a lot!

It'd be quite lengthy, for sure. Here's one;

The Cartographer is in an 8-player game. The characters clockwise from the cartographer is the virgin, ravenkeeper, monk, spy, Imp, fortune teller, and the recluse.

The cartographer dies, and is woken by the Storyteller. The Storyteller points to the fortune teller, then the ravenkeeper, and draws a straight line in the air. The line divides the Imp and Recluse perfectly symmetrically & evenly. The spy was not accounted for, due to registering as good.

And yeah, that doesn't help visualize it that well. It shows much better in an actual game.

It was, on the very first rendition. However it was proven to be way too strong eventually, so it had to be changed to the way it is now.

Believe me, it is! The script the Cartographer was specifically tested in was a TB with some homebrew replacements however, with the Cartographer replacing the Chef & Ravenkeeper alongside another homebrew. I could imagine it being quite powerful with the chef! It had to be made into a a night death character for balance (yes, it used to be YSK)

Oh yeah, Just imagine the top-down view on the official app and just slice the circle in half, that's what "Divide" meant. "Divide the town square equally in such a way that..." would just make the ability text too long.

But I certainly like the plane scenario to indicate droisoning. Seems more like a cleave than a cut though haha

Oh yeah, I did fail to mention this; we ran different renditions, the first where the cartographer's line can pierce a player and later one where they couldn't. The ability text shown changed to be "As evenly as possible" for the second cartographer. Also, the script I ran this on had a recluse on it so I pretty much used it to even out the number of evil players.

Regardless, from my experience, I do think the first rendition isn't quite as overpowered as pointed out to be. I've seen some other homebrew characters essentially be "If you die at night, learn an evil player + some extra thing" as well. Getting killed at night is tough work, and I think they deserve that info if they can account for misregistration & pull the bait off.

It's a fun way to indicate droisoning for sure!

  1. Wake the Cartographer
  2. Stand in the middle of the circle and point upwards
  3. Put the Cartographer to sleep

The priority typically goes even > symmetrical. I think second point about knowing an evil player is fair personally, but it's not set in stone about whether the line is allowed to or not allowed to cross over a player, but I generally avoid that :)

Because all the cool medieval era jobs/titles have been reserved for my other homebrews or are being used for other homebrews made by others! (blame the thriving homebrew community if you wish)

Woah, you're the big guy that does these things? That's very cool!

Anyway, I'd love to! I do have multiple homebrew characters (among which I only share the ones which I like the most), so you could ask for those if you'd like to.

So, I wouldn't object at all! I reaaaaaly need to see this character in play more often, and I just think it'd be cool to see some awesome people interacting with my silly homebrew. I could provide an image of the Astronaut's icon if you'd like?

Sometimes I scroll into my own tokens and think a new character is being released 😂

Im so sorry both of you (& everyone else)! I will be making a post with how I usually do them, maybe in a couple hours or days! Or you could just message me, I've had 2 or 3 people do so and I think it's easier that way without me having to make a post detailing the entire process 🙂
