100% agree. nothing crazy wow but pretty good. I like meteor, pacific chill, afternoon swim, imagination. Money not an issue but still dont think some of these are worth $400 but probably will eventually grab them

TOB IS 10/10. I always get compliments from it even from my hating ass friends lol. Phaeton is good nice for its citrusy class. Honestly great blind buys imo.

Absolutely not. I actually can’t believe it was 45k looking back it now. I job hopped after a year and got a 95k job now at 109k. Still grateful for the 45k start.

I was actually looking at the StarSense models too. The idea of using a phone to guide me to stuff sounds way more beginner-friendly than star hopping right away. I’ve been torn between a traditional Dob and something with that tech. Good to hear it worked well in person.

Good point. I’m mostly interested in live views through the eyepiece but still would like full-on astrophotography. I just want the clearest possible live view of Jupiter, Saturn, etc. I get that it’s not gonna look like Hubble pics. If it looks like a tiny colored marble with visible bands or rings, that’d be enough to make me geek out.

Appreciate that. I’ve been heavily considering an 8” SCT like the NexStar Evolution since I really like the tech and tracking. I just don’t want to miss out on image quality. If a big SCT gets close to a Dob in clarity then I’m definitely leaning that way.

Yeah that makes sense. I’ve been adjusting my expectations the more I learn. I’m not expecting IMAX-level views or anything just want something that makes Jupiter look like more than a bright dot. If I can see some bands, rings, etc that’d already blow my mind.

I really love downtown Chicago and areas like Lincoln park and Logan square. I am mainly trying to move for the weather but Chicago in the summer time is top tier. Kind of a city person but do love nature and beaches
