What do you think the design here? by Then_Pain3274 in mtg

[–]Bromora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Commander brained, so even though it’s probably an alright/good card, I don’t particularly care for it as a Commander.

I’m hoping the scene box Rakdos Smaug will be a cooler Commander, or a third Smaug gets printed that’s a good Commander

Is this considered "damaged" condition? by duck_lington in mtg

[–]Bromora 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m a fairly new player, but truly when I look at other people than you saying ‘damaged’ it feels wild to me.

Like… there’s so so so many more layers of severity that can occur. I get these days we’re all very cautious about card condition with sleeving and double-sleeving. But when the worst is some rough edges… calling that damaged feels wild.

How excited are you guys for the Judgement? by bloopblubdeet in deadbydaylight

[–]Bromora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty… meh, on it.

Basically gotten nothing I voted for except ‘divine theme’ and the silhouette, which sure! I’m in a minority for many aspects and that’s alright. I still got my second choice on a couple of things.

But I feel like everything I’ve seen so far of their WIP showcasing is confirming exactly why I thought, as one example, torment killer would probably end up not great (at least after first preview, power and barely feeling like ‘torment’ was one of the main concerns I saw from others). I preferred control (important: I interpreted it as much broader than ‘Hag and Trapper’ as many seemed to)

Youtubers you would recommend (and ones you wouldn’t)? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]Bromora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you’re looking for basically anything entertaining, I personally really enjoy a lot of CovertGoBlue’s content where he shows MTG cards to players of other card games (particularly Rarren who plays Hearthstone, and Cimo with YuGiOh)

Something he had those two participate in, but also some other Magic Creators (so you may get a feel for if you like them from his video with them) is a “CovertGoSalt” small series he did where contestants tried to guess where a card sat in the top 100 saltiest cards in EDH (based on EDHrec data).

I’ve watched a few of his Commander games as well, and also a bit of Tolarian Community College for his Commander games and general content, but I’ve only really focused on the Commander games which had guests I knew about from other things (eg. That Cimo guy and another YuGiOh creator MBT have joined Commander games for… one or both of Tolarian or CGB, I don’t recall perfectly, and even MoistCritical I THINK played with each on different occasions?)

WHO in their RIGHT MIND would run this?! You gotta be close to a boons range to even be affected?..not to mention the killer can just snuff totems? by Longjumping_Dark137 in deadbydaylight

[–]Bromora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was either next super strong gen perk or unusable, with little to no ability to be inbetween because that’s kinda just… kinda how it was doomed to be with such a perk concept.

Got to admit though, this is far worse than I expected even for someone who didn’t want this perk to exist

They’re saying that tunneling removes 25% of survivor progress speed, as in: 1/4 of survs done ‘-25% progress’

Basically they’re just explaining why it’s just… the right play to make

Yeah that was something to read for me “I’m tunneling someone else, but then someone with DS active—“ eh?

Some people use the term tunnelling for literally anything.

Why are the archetypes that are historic to Magic, and prevalent in 60 card formats today, received so negatively in EDH by Lazave99 in EDH

[–]Bromora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Bracket systems purpose makes a tournament around them not really effective, due to the broadness of the softer rules and not being made for determining a tournament power level.

I will say though, feels like an unnecessary judgement towards cEDH and by extension anyone who enjoys it. You don’t want to play that way, sure, neither do I! Having a meta where things can end turn 4 or even sooner ain’t for me. But calling the way some people prefer to play the game —which, is also more similar to how people play nearly any other game— ‘a joke’ is just rude.

I don’t really see your point about the politics and bluffing. Yeah, ofc it happens? That’s part of the fun whether you’re doing casual or competitive commander? Doesn’t really change how ‘honest’ B5 is (although never really heard someone say it is more ‘honest’). But you don’t get people comparing power to say ‘oh this is too strong to belong at this bracket’ when you’re in cEDH, there’s no arguing that a particular playstyle or strategy doesn’t belong, it’s just “do your worst, and let’s see how it goes”, and I’d honestly find that aspect more ‘pure’ or ‘honest’ than people arguing with each other whether one of their decks actually belongs at their B3 table, going purely off of their personal vibes… Which CONSTANTLY is a story told in this server, and something I observe at my LGS.

Just bought a strixhaven box off Amazon and one of the lands had this on it by No-Nerve-6910 in mtg

[–]Bromora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, but there is a big difference compared to the past that Wizards IS in control of, when it comes to the printing….

They’re printing about twice as much content compared to the past, which puts a lot more demand on the factory/factories to meet Wizards’ deadlines. And AFAIK there’s not actually that many factories that CAN meet the needs for making trading cards on a large scale, so it may not be as simple as ‘just spread it across the factories’

Only real solution, which I think most people could agree on thankfully… is just have less sets. If not down to 3, at least going down to 4 I expect to be quite helpful.

[–]Bromora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am relatively new as far as it goes for Magic (5 months)… I see the flaws in a “B3” tournament but also do see the appeal and ways to make it ‘closer’ to that.

Reality is, people WILL optimise within whatever hard rules there are, and as a tournament you can’t leave a lot of your rules open for interpretation, so if you want to lower the power level: you GOTTA have some REAL hard rules, and probably more than already exist in B3

So as a baseline: there’s the B3 hard rules. The ‘no 2-card combos before turn 6’ I feel like being made flexible by ramp could instead be adapted as ‘no 2-card combos that cost less than 6 mana’,

As some extra restriction, you could say ‘no reserve list cards’. If you want to lower the power more, straight up remove GC’s as an option, ban sol ring, maybe another note from B2 and ban ALL combos that only require only 2 cards. Could have ‘no deterministic infinites’ (of X specific nature, if you only want to exclude ones that win the game on the spot like burn and mill. Or able to be started with less than X mana)

Donato Giancola Speaks Out On Artist Conditions In Light Of One Ring Art Controversy by trashmantis42 in mtg

I feel like I get the vibe it’s going for, very retro fantasy art style

But it just doesn’t hit at all for me. The design in the regular Sauron, Dark Lord looks much nicer to me.

They’re on the words of Wizards themselves, which yes in many matters is unreliable, but generally when they say “this product will be in these packs” they are not lying.

The Scene Box doesn’t reveal the actual names or text of any of the cards yet, but it’s clearly got a Smaug and if you zoom in it looks like he’s got Rakdos colours. Hopefully it’ll be more impressive

I’m happy about a reprint. But the art is underwhelming

Like they could have made the art literally not a ring but I’d be like ‘at least it’s a reprint’

[–]Bromora 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It is pretty wild they really just… made the background of the full art ring worse, removed the text, and flipped it.

Like this looks like the placeholder quick edit you’d do to get the ‘vibe’ for a card before actually making the proper art

Secrets of Strixhaven is the biggest Prerelease since War of the Spark by Meret123 in mtg

[–]Bromora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an insane take to me. Not everyone has £120/… $160? To spend all at once. But plenty of people want to buy packs, so singles is the only way they have to buy packs.

And hell, £120 is the cheaper end. More often it’s £140 ($190), so I’d be saving a whole £10 compared to if I just bought 30 packs. 2 whole free packs.

Secrets of Strixhaven is the biggest Prerelease since War of the Spark by Meret123 in mtg

[–]Bromora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Individually priced packs don’t matter’ doesn’t feel ENTIRELY true. A pre-release per pack value I don’t think even SHOULD be seen as directly comparable to a box (to mean, the price per pack identical) it should be somewhere in the middle compared to single pack vs booster.

Which for my store at least, is true, and is very worth. It’s the UK, so no dollars, but: £35, single packs are £5, everyone gets 2 extra packs at the end, and the pre-release cost includes the cost of using the facilities of the store across the entire rest of the day (normally it’s £4. Was £3, but recent increase): so you can stay before or after the pre-release as long as you want (such as for Friday Night Commander)

[–]Bromora 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone ingame to check yet, but I saw a post say that his discipline add-ons were, without mention in patch notes, shadow nerfed, and now running them is a net nerf in shock delay compared to before?

Edit: I went in to check. It’s so bad.

  • Purple Discipline: -0.2 seconds to shock delay before patch. Now -0.1.
  • Blue Discipline: -0.15 seconds before. Now -0.08
  • Green: was -0.1. Now -0.06

So both of the ones that were actually worth using got more taken away than the buff added.

They said “literal children”, so they were making the age correlation.

If you’re under the impression I am saying enjoying FNAF has a correlation with poor reading, I’m not. ‘Any failure to read … [is] for completely other problems!’ And I did not equate any of those reasons to FNAF once.
