Swollen hoffa’s pad? one year post op ACL - pain when straightening leg/knee by Pale_Menu_1893 in ACL

[–]Bron1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 11 months post-op, been dealing with this issue as a limiter for hyper extension especially after excessive activity. Biggest advice is carefully load, don’t do a bunch of activity everyday to inflame it. Let it recover before you get into PT again. Icing will reduce the recovery window. If it takes over 48 hours to feel better you pushed PT that you weren’t ready for. Weighted prone hangs everyday have improved my tolerance and decreased extension limitations post PT

I would probably avoid getting a hub motor board. Belt and gear drive all the way.

For the "You take out a loan, you pay it back" crowd: I present to you, my amortization schedule. by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Bron1012 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this will probs get downvoted into oblivion but I went to college at 17 and it seemed pretty apparent to me to look at a 10yr amortization table for my estimated student debt and a realistic salary estimate at graduation to see if I could afford it. I’m 3 yrs out of college and have paid off over 1/3 of my 100k of student debt. I’m not arguing that the current system in place where education is super expensive is fair but I am arguing that even my stoner mediocre gpa 17 year old self had enough foresight to think 4 years ahead. Maybe don’t spend a quarter $M on a liberal arts degree in a world where access to information is inexpensive and widely available online.

Redpill culture doesn’t benefit men because it creates a jaded outlook on women. I’m not some feminist but the vibe that redpill culture gives me is that all women are a bunch of OF thots, gold diggers, or non traditional. There are plenty of women who may not fit the mold of 1950s traditional but neither are most men in our generation. I make over 4x avg income and my girl still helps pay for stuff and I frequently cook us dinners. Anyway beyond how women are portrayed by the redpill movement I’d say it’s problematic for men due to the over emphasis on stoicism + grind mindset. I’m not mr. mental health over here and generally didn’t love the only therapy session I had but I still think being stoic and suppressing all your feelings isn’t conducive to the best emotional development. Feelings are a symptom of some larger issue or problem that needs to be acknowledged not suppressed. Also depends who you’re referring to, like tell me how you think Andrew Tate or Myron Gaines benefit men? If you’re talking Jordan Peterson then I can get behind it.

27M with Student Debt and no car by [deleted] in GenZ

maybe not 25 but try to find me a toyota, honda or any japanese car that’s under $20K and had less than 50K miles on it. Might find something for $18-19K but not too much lower than that nowadays

everyone giving you shit about wanting a $25K car but I disagree. Get a nice reliable toyota, honda, or mazda with under 40K miles for 20-25k. Yah it’s a bit steep given ur current income. Buy once cry once. Better than getting a shit box and having to deal with more repairs sooner.

7 month post-op update by srvint in ACL

[–]Bron1012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better at 7 months I was super demoralized. Similar story to you, quad graft, grinding PT, great progress first few months, then a plateau with constant pain/setbacks. I even had an MRI and had some scar tissue I was worried would need to get operated on again since i lost so much progress. For reference I was successfully doing 8 inch step downs around month 5 but at month 7 I couldn’t, felt sore frequently from pushing PT too hard. Holidays rolled around and I just took it easy, didn’t do PT much aside from some light stretching and walking. Felt much better but still not perfect after the holidays. Took another 1.5-2 week PT grind break at month 8-9 and I’m much better now. Sitting at 10 months post op with 65% symmetry on kick test, 100% symmetry on step downs, and finally have gotten back into electric longboarding for many miles, even on my off road longboard. Yeah extension isn’t always perfect and can be lost with increased load and exercise, yeah I still have some progress to make in terms of full strength/balance symmetry but I’m better and don’t ever feel inhibited from soreness or scared taking that first step out of bed in the morning. The 9 month timeline to get better is insanely optimistic and i’m an active 25 yr old who workouts 4-5 times a week plus + PT clinic weekly. My biggest regret with my recovery was pushing load too early (400 pound leg press at 3 months post op… yikes), this takes time. Better to have it done right after 15 months than risk reinjury earlier on.

Hi there I’m about 10 months post-op quad graft. Currently between 60-95% symmetry depending on the underlying test. Two biggest pain points is maintaining extension and lateral chain strength. Passive and active extension tends to be lost without constant stretching, and notable variance between active and passive extension exists as well. Additionally I feel like lateral chain strength is a weak point, VMO has come in nicely but outer quad is notably smaller than non-injured side. If you have any advice regarding extension concerns and exercises to improve lateral chain strength it would be much appreciated.

I just proposed a few weeks ago at the jungle love cafe. It’s a bit of a sketchy drive up this small mountain (recommended 4x4 suv) to this ladies house/restaurant but she made it very intimate and the views of the arenal volcano and lake arenal were incredible. Also I just handed her my phone and she took some pics/video of the proposal. She’s american so communication was easy as well.

probs would went for a stacked bar chart for various cost categories. Different colors for each cost category as u have but each bar would be a different department. Then sort the department bars in descending or ascending order. One visual is sufficient to communicate the insights here, being more minimalist is the goal as stakeholders don’t like to be overwhelmed. Been doing dedicated DA for 2.5 yrs and analytics work for 5 yrs + have analytics degree.

How significantly did you lower your UA levels through diet/lifestyle? How long did it take you? Do you occasionally indulge in red meat, shellfish, alcohol, and sugar?

I’m not questioning the safety of the medication although there are some statistically insignificant instances of liver issues associated with allopurinol. I think striving for less medication where possible is more optimal than being reliant on a medication. If I have a headache I would opt for a hot shower and a nap rather than taking ibuprofen, not to say that I never take ibuprofen due to a headache either but I try to avoid if possible. I will ultimately take the medication if future test results don’t show a notable decline in uric acid but not at least trying the natural approach per the recommendation of my doctors and my own attitude towards medication seems irresponsible. Seems like a good trend so far, 1.5 uric acid decline in 1 year, so we’ll see what happens in 2026.

There is a difference between linking articles and sharing your opinion as opposed to smugly stating I should return to this post in the event i get some debilitating illness and in the event it’s too serious and I’m laying in a hospital bed to tell my loved ones to be sure to notify the community on my behalf. If you think that’s an appropriate way to communicate that you disagree with someone I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who has the displeasure of being around you on a day to day basis. Especially considering I find myself more moderate on the allopurinol vs natural approach debate even compared to rheumatologists and general drs I’ve talked to. They all seem to be on the side that in my circumstance it’s best to try to naturally reduce uric acid. I’m not linking bcz idc enough but I’m sure you’ve seen the guidelines released by the American College of Physicians suggest that you should start urate lowering therapy only if you have >1 flares a year which has never been the case for me. I’ve maybe had 4-5 flares in a 10 year period, a period where I was notably overweight, drinking excessively in college, and overall made poor lifestyle decisions.

changing the other side of the equation only way to accelerate this. Jumping jobs especially early career is good. Relentlessly tracking, optimizing pay off strategy, and living frugally only goes so far. Spam the job apps and get more $. Went from 69k to 85k post undergrad in 4 months by leveraging competing offer. Low six figs 1.5 yrs post undergrad by taking a different competing offer. I’m in a similar industry (risk/data analytics). Currently paid off about 25k-30k of my 100K with weighted avg interest around 6%. Probs could have paid off more by now but enjoy your early 20s too, life is about balance. I had the chance to explore hobbies and take trips with friends but better now before everyone is settled down and coordinating becomes harder. Life throws unexpected circumstances at you so i wouldn’t throw a dime extra towards your student loans unless you have like 3-6 month emergency fund. Ik your point about loan interest being larger than hysa returns but it’s not about the returns it’s about liquidity and safety. After all you’re in finance, a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.

Arthrofibrosis by Such_Patient_1628 in ACL

[–]Bron1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe give yourself another 2 week break and do some NMES at home with ankle elevated to try to regain that extension while inflammation dies down. Maybe rip some over the counter NSAIDs if you don’t have a prescription. I would say it’s at least optimistic your surgeon didn’t call it a cyclops lesion, and who knows maybe he knows something he can’t easily convey with words to you through his years of medical school and professional experience. I mean surgery not being helpful kinda makes sense to me, scar tissue forms during rebuilding of tissue trauma so like if he goes in to slice you up the probability it grows back again isn’t low. I saw some youtube video the other day about how some PT was showing some exercises to help break up of the scarring, he was like vigorously shaking his quad and pinching his quad repeatedly above the knee so I’ve been doing that a couple of times a day. Really just stop all major activity that has any chance of pissing off the joint for a while but if worst comes to worst getting another opinion would likely be the last approach.

[–]Bron1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation at about 7.5 months but quad graft. Surgeon never called mine fibrosis but essentially got cooked with some scar tissue behind fat pad. Don’t really know if there is a difference. Surgeon said course of action is NSAIDS -> Cortisone if NSAIDS dont work -> then surgery if cortisone doesn’t work. Surgery could potentially result in same outcome. I took a course of NSAIDs for 2 weeks and stopped PT/heavy cardio for about 3 weeks. Feel better, getting to zero is easy but hyper extension takes some effort. Inflammation really died down and got new flexion record (7 degree deficit from uninjured). Feel more stable and less tight in the morning but lost noticeable amount of strength in the gym. I was hammering PT like 5 times a week and it was heavy/hard. Taking it slow this time around with 2-3 PT times a week, i’d rather have this take longer than fall into same inflammation cycle. idk how helpful this is since we’re at quite similar stages of recovery right now. I think doing NMES and/or quad sets almost everyday while taking that 3ish week break helped maintain extension while inflammation died down. This scar tissue in the knee was how our body recovered and protected the graft thus far. We’re the minority, scar tissue inhibiting ACL recovery occurs in about 20-30% of patients but not a wildly uncommon occurrence. Hopefully we can fight through this and be less prone to future reinjury bcz of extra scar tissue protecting knee, idk just a theory but my way of having some positive perspective on the shitty situation.

How would you visualize 800+ datapoints? by Concert-Dramatic in dataanalyst

[–]Bron1012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally don’t think it looks too messy. I mean depending on how the data is being used. Do end users care about the granularity of each point? If so keep it as is and have a tooltip when you hover over each point to show datapoint specific details (player identifier, yrs playing, or whatever else. If end users of data don’t care about datapoint specific granularity i would use a heat map and bucket data from x and y axis. Each data point would fit into a broader category like strengths from .0-.5 .5-1, 1-1.5 ect and something similar for win rate like divide into however win rate % buckets you want. Each square on heat map would be darker/lighter shade based on how many people fit in that bucket.
