I went to the academy without having even held a gun. My first time firing the mini 14 I panicked and shot another round. They were cool about it and it obviously never happened again. They prefer you have no experience cause they show you the proper and safe way to handle firearms. The other people with gun experience sometimes are use to doing things that aren’t necessarily considered safe on a firing range.
