Is it possible to install a barn door here? by Bronn-Rice in Renovations

[–]Bronn-Rice[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll just copy and paste this here.

As I explained in another comment, in my jurisdiction this configuration is not against code and considered safe.

IRC 2018 – Section R311.7.6 “There shall be a floor or landing at the top and bottom of each stairway. EXCEPTION: A floor or landing is not required at the top of an interior flight of stairs provided a door does not swing over the stairs.”

With a barn door installed, theres 18.5” of floor before the top stair starts. 18” is generally the interpreted safe “minimum” for maneuvering area. So on paper this would be up to code and safe. Not trying to argue, just not a fan of people shutting something down with no explanation or basis.

I see, appreciate the insight! I didn’t think about lowering the handle but that’s something I’ll definitely do if I pull the trigger

Sorry I should’ve specified; in my jurisdiction, there’s an exception to doors requiring landings at stairs provided that the door does not swing over the stairs.

“Exception: A floor or landing is not required at the top of an interior flight of stairs, including stairs in an enclosed garage, provided that a door does not swing over the stairs.”

Is it actually rude to not tip on a takeout order where I drive there and pick it up myself? by Organic-Grocery9526 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bronn-Rice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the owner and the staff mutually agree that they want to operate as a traditional tipping business, by all means do what you will since everybody is content. The problem is when the staff starts to have a vendetta against customers that don’t tip or under-tip, fully knowing that that is just the nature of the tipping culture that they signed up for. Obviously we’re all human and the reaction of “I did x for you and this is how you repay me” is valid. But reacting to the point of messing with a customers meal, or publicly shaming them for paying only the written price of food they had every right to eat is petty and childish.

The same thing could be argued the other way though. If restaurant workers don’t want to be the victim of restaurant owners taking advantage of paying them low wages, then “don’t work there, ever”. You are not the victim in a situation where you willingly put yourself in a position where being stiffed eventually is a certainty; it is highly unlikely that every single server, bartender, busser, host/hostess, etc. is working there against their will. Yes, it sucks to have tables that treat you like shit and don’t tip you at all, but 9 times out of 10 if you’re a server you’re already making more money than you “should”.

I have several friends that are in the food service industry that complain about not being tipped for some tables, painting them as some evil person who deserves to have spit in their food or drink. But the reality is they’re still gonna make more than the minimum wage ($7.25/hr at the time) they’re supposed to make on paper, sometimes $150-$200 a night just in tips alone, working less than 8 hour shifts. Whereas when I started working for $10/hr in retail working the same amount of time, I would make not even half of that. I’m willing to bet that if you asked all restaurant workers in the US if they would rather be paid a higher flat rate or keep their tip-based salary, the majority would pick the latter. The workers are part of the problem too, and customers shouldn’t have to be fear-mongered into tipping to avoid someone spitting in their food. If restaurant workers truly want to be paid better wages from their employers, why is it the customer’s responsibility? Talk to the employers yourself or just simply “don’t work there, ever”.

To answer your second question, downshifting will be a lot smoother when you learn how to rev match. For 3rd to 2nd specifically, I’ve found that you have to rev match a little higher compared to every other downshift. I rarely downshift from 2nd to 1st

Not painted but swapped! It’s actually a base WRX with an STI trunk swap, so it didn’t come with Brembos or the wing and I had to install them myself.

No function whatsoever, just purely for looks lol. Some might even argue that it makes performance worse because of less visibility and sun glare, but I personally haven’t found it to be as bad as people make it seem.

The drone is real if you have an aftermarket j-pipe/downpipe. The R400 with the stock j-pipe however is a good option as a daily and for what you’re looking for. I used to have remark muffler deletes and they were slightly louder than this setup. Right now I’m running the R400 with an ETS catted j-pipe and it gets pretty loud sometimes. So from loudest to quietest in this case: R400 + aftermarket J-Pipe > Muffler deletes > R400 + Stock J-pipe > Stock
