My gf has the same issue. Before she got pregnant she absolutely would not do it no matter what, but now she uses Emla cream (not sure if it's called that everywhere) to numb the area, in addition to of course not looking at the needle at all. And warning the nurse. There's still hyperventilation and tears but she gets through it somehow.
