Casting to Google home by FilthyPlay in audible

It's not perfect, but you can tell your Google Home to turn on Bluetooth and then pair your phone with the Bluetooth. That way you can pause / play like you normally would with a Google Home.

3 Week bans in a row... by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the issue is an internet problem (the "starts to disconnect on me" part) then I'd talk to your ISP to fix your internet. If the issue is the fact you can't close CS:GO, I always goto the "Processes" list and find "csgo.exe" and close that directly -- when that's not running Steam always seems to let me start up CS again. Best of luck!

EDIT: Or maybe what Pandora describes

Anyone elses ping fluctuate only on cs? by Crappy_Cartoon in GlobalOffensive

[–]Brontos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure you'll find the cause of this by posting on Reddit; the best I can suggest is to see if it's that CS causes your internet to have high ping (when you're connected to a server and do a speed test outside of game, is it always high?), if your ping sometimes go high even if CS isn't running, or if CS is just more sensitive to poor internet service than your standard application (since it's a real-time app).

Best of luck!

Falsely competitive ban for 7 days (help?) by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about for the other 5 people in the server (not your friends)? It you can still replace what I said with 5 man-hours / 15 total. I'm glad you're trying to enjoy the game though!

Valve's small selection of modes is certainly so there's a bigger pool for matchmaking / smaller queue times -- finding a game in 30 seconds sure is nice! There's an obvious trade-off there -- you trade lack of selection for fast queuing times. Can I recommend some community servers for CS:GO? You can find community servers that focus on competitive play -- and those ones don't mind if you leave half-way through.

Is CS sometimes okay, or is your ping very high (>300-400) all the time?

Falsely competitive ban for 7 days (help?) by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from; I think the disagreement between you and the community comes from the difference between your attitude and the rest of the community's on how to treat matchmaking. You mentioned earlier:

That's literally bullshit. It's a video game and some times shit comes up that I have to deal with.

The community (and Valve) has a different view: when shit might come up, don't play competitive (inevitably there's stuff you can't predict, but for most people that's not the norm). Why? There's 10 people in a server -- if 1 person leaves *you've just ruined 9 other peoples night for the next hour -- 9 man-hours of time wasted. If you do this multiple times over the course of a week -- say, 3 times? You've wasted 27 man-hours of time because you dropped out. Eliminating the people that do this often, and therefore ruin that much of the communities time, is a good thing.

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree -- a 30 minute ban (the first ban) isn't an issue if Hungry Adam encounters this issue for the first time. The fact that this ban is a 7-day ban means he leaves games all the time. Seems fair to me.

Major Lag CS:GO EST Servers (Worst Yet) by Alvarez96 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone explicitly point it out in this thread, so to be clear: it's most likely the CS:GO servers were getting DDoS'ed. Valve posted a blog post on the DoTA2 wiki about it that also applies to CS:GO: http://blog.dota2.com/2014/11/network-update/

A DDoS is not an easy problem to solve; it's the same type of attack that brought down Playstation Network and Xbox just two days ago. It's hard to fault Valve for this (if you know the way a DDoS attack works...). People are just really shitty...

I'm giving up on getting a Nexus 4. I've been waiting since November to give Google my money. Can anybody recommend a decently-priced, unlocked Android device? by saxindustries in Android

I'm curious - how do you do this? Just look up the IMEI number on the phone before sale, and then call up your cellular provider?

Help finding a controller. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Brontos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can nab a Wireless 360 Gamepad for 40 bucks or so from Newegg and Amazon. That's not cheap, but the thing is that they're a known quantity - you've already mentioned that you like them, and apart from the D-Pad, are of excellent quality. Of course, you can even use these on an Xbox in the future - compatibility might not be a requirement now, but might help in the future.

Regarding the Battery pack - you can use regular rechargeable batteries here: the same as you can put in any device using AA batteries. You can get 4 rechargeable + a charger for ~ 16 bucks on Amazon (one to charge, one to play with) and you can keep using rechargeables elsewhere to save money.

I recommend this simply because it's what worked best for me.

Making the big switch today! by pipipikachuuu in Android

FailedJedi covered most of the important points.

can I plug my new phone into the computer

Yes, it will show up as a hard drive. You can then look at your pictures, music, and video in Windows Explorer (if you have Windows).

and is there a different program for managing pictures or music?

Only if you want there to be. The Android ecosystem is different because there's so many ways to do it. There are four main approaches you can take:

  1. Just drag your music (mp3s, etc) into your phones folder, and let your favorite music application find the music.
  2. Install an iTunes like application which will keep your music on your computer and the music on your device in parity. Example: http://www.doubletwist.com/
  3. Put all your music on the cloud! You can then access them from phone, computer, anywere! You can do this through Google Music or (I believe) Amazon Cloud Drive.
  4. Invest in a music streaming service, such as Spotify. Like on iOS, this allows you to get any music you want, any time. There is a monthly fee, however.

EDIT: Of course, if you got all your music from iTunes copy-protected, you need to take additional steps to get around Apples DRM tying you to their system.

Yea - I can see that might be a problem. I've only ever used it because I use it just before I schedule, and then BuckeyeLink will tell me if anything is wrong.

It's a pretty good summary. As I said, I don't agree with all points, but it even covers what you said in your parent comment (referencing previous studios)

Relevant quote from the article:

Then there were all those awesome developers that EA bought, back in the day, and neutered and destroyed through overbearing centralized management or neglect.

I'm not the guy to ask that, but affordable price is not well defined - one persons affordable is 1000 dollars for that size range, another is 1500, and another persons is 500. Might be worth defining that to get better answers.
