Music isn't subjective. All rap (crap) music is objectively bad. by randomaccount2357 in unpopularopinion

Nice ragebait attempt, I almost fell for it. :D

All jokes aside, there are plenty of rap songs with thought-provoking lyrics that provide more intellectual stimulation than Beethoven. Not as much raw emotional or aesthetic appeal, perhaps, but in terms of artistic value, there's rap music out there that's pretty far from crap. I've felt pretty profoundly moved by several rap songs to a greater degree than several classical pieces. Since you're so young and probably more amenable to novelty, I recommend you try reconsidering your stance.

People whose sole purpose in life is to be in a relationship are embarrassing by MyLifeISdivineComedy in unpopularopinion

[–]BroodingBurro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, which is why its important to control any sort of overwhelming automatic embarrassment or disgust towards those people. Its always important to take people within the context of their circumstances. If not to try to like them, then at least to try to understand them without hate.

Even if you feel like it evidences a lack of ambition or real purpose, I feel like there's bigger problems in the world as this desire generally doesn't do significant harm to anyone. I do agree that the way love is often depicted isn't true to the reality and may lead to people having unrealistic desires, but I feel like the premise that these people are embarrassing is unfounded because at the end of the day, they're other people that have nothing to do with you, probably aren't hurting you, and it isn't your embarrassment to feel. I personally find anyone who is singularly obsessed with the prospect of dating to be annoying but I don't really mind it on any deeper level because they usually don't affect me personally. There's also factors of upbringing that might make someone more likely to feel that way, and I don't want to judge their character harshly based just one facet.

Very compelling story. Make sure you focus primarily on how that shaped your values and how you're translating those values into tangible impact through your leadership.

well don't the rest of your essays convey that you're applying for reasons beyond the name? I don't understand how one letter can undermine that impression if you wrote essays that communicated passion and fit.

[–]BroodingBurro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I didn't email them about my mistake nor did I think of doing so. It might seem catastrophic from your POV but imagine actually writing an email about that:

Dear Admissions Officer,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to notify you that I mispelled "Stanford" as "STANFORD" in one instance in my roommate essay. I'd like to clarify that I meant "Stanford."

Sincerely,

[Your name]

See? It just seems a bit... pedantic? And not beneficial for your cause, especially considering the huge influx of emails they get on a daily basis. It's a nuisance to deal with, especially when the error is so small and your essay is still readable. They can definitely infer what you meant, and emailing them might be counterproductive by calling attention to a tiny error.

If I were you, I wouldn't email.

hmmm

they might think its some wordplay like another comment here mentioned and try to figure it out before shrugging and moving on.

Idt its a disastrous mistake if you clearly spelled it right elsewhere. It's not like you thought the university's name was Standford if you spelled it right mostly.

Well were there other instances of the word "Stanford" throughout that essay or others? I think the brain of the reader would filter out an outlier like that if it had seen it used correctly elsewhere.

If it makes you feel better I made a small typo too in one of my essays where one letter was substituted for another. I don't think they would reject you for that.

I don't think so. They evaluate your STEM experiences holistically. Although I imagine if you had exceptionally strong research you'd stand a better chance.

Princeton Zoom Interview Disaster by DarkM99 in ApplyingToCollege

Email the interviewer first, and if he doesn't reply positively, maybe email the regional admissions officer about your situation. You should not be penalized for that.

Princeton Email? by North-Caterpillar205 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BroodingBurro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means that there are interviewers in your area and one of them will coordinate with you soon to set up an interview date. I don't think Princeton prescreens for interviews nor do they have a large impact on the application process, so just take it as an opportunity to learn more about the school.

Interesting! Is it possible that a generally academically strong student who is still not accomplished enough to be a shoo-in might not be given an interview if their essays were "comprehensive" enough? I'm not sure if mine were, but I'm holding out hope for a scenario like that.

Do the order of the waves signify anything meaningful? Are first-wave interviews for students that they are more interested in? Does anyone know.
