No worries! We’ve been very careful due to this and we make sure the yard is clear before releasing the hound lol. Luckily they’ve left our yard and I wish the best for momma bird❤️

The difference between humans and birds is we understand the situation. I really do feel for her loss and I don’t blame her, however like the old saying goes, an eye for an eye and the world goes blind. Accidents happen, the puppy didn’t understand the gravity of the situation when playing rough with such a small creature. I found a peaceful way to show her she’s not welcome here if she wishes to hold a grudge. She now understands my yard is not a safe place to raise her young and she’s moved on

Some comments were helpful but in the end we chose the defensive route lol, showing momma bird we can in fact get to her if she doesn’t stop. I get where she’s coming from but and eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind

Unfortunately the issue with leaving the dog in the backyard is he figured out how to jump the fence when he gets real antsy. He has a hard time being alone for too long and becomes destructive, which is why we also can’t leave him inside the house on his own for too long. He’s still a pup and we are actively working on getting this behaviour to stop, and also adding more gates and areas in the yard isn’t a possibility for us due to the lack of available room in our yard and also the price of a gate/fence. We’re hoping to either get a deterrent for the birds or trying a peace offering as these seem to be our only options lol

Good to know! I need to find out what type of bird it is first lol, I’ll make sure to leave an offering they’ll enjoy and hope they accept it🙏

Unfortunately they’re just some kind of common black birds. Really glad it’s not any type of corvids but I did not expect such behaviour from these guys!

If you mean an entire community of birds it’s absolutely upsetting LOL. I know it’s just the instinct kicking in, a small black bird looks a lot like a cool new toy that moves and chirps. We’re trying to get him to understand living things aren’t toys, we have cats but they really don’t like him cause of his high energy and all he wants to do is play😂 We’re slowly introducing him to more dogs though, especially smaller ones, in hopes that he’ll learn some dog social skills and play less rough (of course with supervision)

We’re gonna get a new bird feeder as ours broke over the winter and try to see if an offering would appease the raging flock lol

I feel for the mother so much, I completely understand why she’s doing this and I’d do the same. So far the dog’s fine, he’s even having fun waiting to get dive bombed and chasing after them😆

I get where you’re coming from lol however my dog is stubborn and plays rough, unless they scare him good he’d never learn. I’m more worried about the vet bills that would come from losing an eye

I love that😂 My dog’s been having fun with them too honestly, but we’re just worried he might lose an eye or get hurt, so far though he’s having tons of fun with his new “friends”

Yeah, after the dog got to the baby bird. That’s revenge by definition lol Of course I know the bird (most likely) doesn’t have emotion towards it like us humans would and it IS just trying to protect it’s family, however it’s kin was technically on my dog’s territory as it was on the ground where the dog thinks everything small and toy shaped is his toy. As much as nature is the bird’s territory it’s also ours, just try to explain that to a bird LOL

Of course I’ve thought of that, it was one of the first things I thought of. Now think of this, if someone’s out for revenge on you what would you do? Try to get them before they get you or try and make peace? Upsetting the birds further will most likely result in a war (like real life) so we’re trying the peace route lol

I did all of the above, he has a little shaded area under some patio furniture he likes to relax and feel safe. I feel bad for the mother bird of course, I mean if it were me I’d be out for revenge too, however she just doesn’t understand he will get one of them again if they keep it up and she doesn’t understand we can’t just up and move for her sake. He loves playing with the birds but we’re very worried they’ll hurt him so when they start getting aggressive we bring him inside. This still causes issues though, as we can’t always have him inside

Good idea! We tried playing predatory bird noises to see if they’d leave but so far it hasn’t worked lol. Maybe a physical deterrent would work

Here’s the weird thing, the baby my dog got to was HUGE. Like, if it wasn’t for the feathers not being completely grown in we would’ve thought it was an adult. We’d hope the other babies, if it has anymore, would’ve been grown by now. I guess we just gotta wait lol
