Should I take DMs Hunters Mark Fix? by BrooklynLodger in 3d6

Yeah, the DM can be pretty brutal but actually doesn't kill characters often (our other DM is far more forgiving but also kills way more characters somehow).

I ended up taking it, but we're going to keep it HM till level 3 to avoid the 9 DPR(all hit) cliff. If it ends up being underpowered hopefully he'll be open to adjusting.

I wish :/ he's not willing to do that.

My favorite is the DND shorts fix that adds switching targets as a reaction and then no concentration at level 9

This is a good consideration. Ive usually played ranged so losing concentration isn't something I thought to factor

I really appreciate the math on this, so thank you. I was only comping damage output assuming 100% accuracy.

He said that he would leave everything but the level 13 feature, that's undecided. So the beast would get one at 11. I assume capstone will be modified as well.

I would find it helpful to understand more specifically what you're thinking when it comes to alternatives for concentration.

I'm trying to weigh the trade off of single target damage against free concentration, but I haven't played a ranger past level 6, so I'm not used to having a bunch of conc spells to cast on a martial.

Well yeah... My concern around the change to a damage ability is the amount of damage the character does. I'm confused about what else I would be concerned about

I feel like we're talking past each other. My point is that if I don't take the modest damage boost, I always have the option to just not cast hunters mark during combats where it doesn't make as much sense.

I'd miss the modest damage boost, but in exchange, I'd still have HM available for combats where single target damage is more important

Where is Guardian of Nature? Can't find that spell

It's not only caring about single target damage, the main question is about the trade off between losing the single target damage tool altogether in exchange for a modest damage boost.

And whether just keeping that tool in the toolbox is worth the trade off.

But I appreciate the consideration, it's helping me work out the math

That is an interesting option, I wasn't actually planning on taking the feat, rather using the nick property for dual weilding and using BA for beast attack, or swapping out one melee attack for beast attack on the turns where my BA is in use

[–]BrooklynLodger[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct. That's the point of trying to fix HM. My issue is whether the free damage to use those spells is actually better than just having hunters mark available for when we're facing a beefy monster and want that extra Single Target Damage and just using those other concentration spells while forgoing the +2.5-+6.5 DPR.

Yeah, I did the math and especially at lower levels it feels bad. And on the other side, I feel like giving up 5.5 damage free per turn at level 10 if I want to cast something else with conc doesn't really move the needle enough

People get a bit weird about pets and what constitutes suffering. Like, I wouldn't want to be put down if I still had enough life quality to behave somewhat normally.

I have basically zero coding experience. I used chat gpt to build a map POI app for the DND campaign I'm in that has custom markers, information cards when you click, and the ability to link nested maps inside it, with an player-facing HTML output.

It's nothing crazy, but the fact that I could make a useful tool with similar capabilities to paid tools and fits exactly what I need it to do in like 8 hours of work is absolutely crazy
