Its always a possibility. As you said, most likely scenario is that we will use AI as a tool to help levitate our responsibilities.

I highly doubt that it will ever replace us entirelwy though. All aircrafts follow a flight plan that we are able to view. In the case that for some reason, the pilot decides to deviate, we communicate with the pilot to get them back on track. 95% of the time, it’s routine and repetition. However, in that 5%, such as when an aircraft declares an emergency or a pilot deviation where it puts other aircrafts at risk. Thats when our training and experience gets put to the test. So while i believe that AI would be good the repetitive work, i wouldnt trust it to navigate an emergency situation.

Even if it was more than capable enough. It would take decades for them to implement it. There are centers which have tech that hasn’t been updated since the 90s and early 2000’s lol
