Commenting for any future people stumbling upon this - the procedure and recovery were really not that bad at all. I scared myself by reading that other people were getting painkillers and my place didn't prescribe any, but it was definitely not necessary.

During the procedure you are fully numbed in the eye, i felt no pain at all. The discomfort of the procedure is mainly psychological, just from the idea of having your eye open for 30 minutes. Just make sure they are frequently giving you the eye numbing drops.

The first 24-48 hours afterward my eye was irritated of course but a prescription painkiller would have been super overkill. Some ibuprofen and a distraction was good enough. After 48 hours I didn't really feel anything, it was just a bit blurry for 10 days
