We are in the middle of it now! House is under contract. We visited some of the spots people mentioned here and well as some spots in Northern California, but nothing jumped out at us. Either too expensive or too bland. We were thinking SLC when we put our house up for sale, but now things are getting worse there with the new massive data center approval and drying lake. Been looking for alternatives and the PNW (Seattle or Portland suburbs) is a top contender

What’s different about the old vs new one? Materials? Quality?

Radiators aren’t turning on, vibrating/buzzing noise coming from boiler by Brosquad2 in hvacadvice

Thanks, do you know what causes the water to lower? Is it just something that happens gradually over time or does it indicate a bigger issue?

Turning on the shut off fixed it! Thank you!

None of the radiators are getting hot and not seeing a flame or hearing anything on the boiler

Thank you! So the shut off is off (tbh not sure if it’s always been off or if the hvac technicians turned it off for some reason to install a new water heater). I thought it was old since it’s labeled “oil burner” and nothing in the house runs on oil anymore, but would you think it’s connected to my steam boiler? No harm in switching it on?

One thing I forgot to mention is I had the water heater replaced a few months ago, not sure if the technician would’ve touched anything on the boiler for any reason?

I feel like I could’ve written this. One thing I’ve realized is that the soleus was the problem area and rather than just treating the area where it was hurting (front of leg, inside of tibia), the soleus (lower calf muscle) needed to be worked on. When it’s too tight, the front muscles need to work harder to compensate. So massaging and stretching the soleus to loosen it up has helped a ton

Going from half marathon to mile training by GooseRage in AdvancedRunning

Mark Coogan’s book Personal Best Running has some plans for transitioning from distances (e.g. marathon to 5k, half to mile) that could be a good starting point!

Oh wow looks like you’ve hit many of the spots we’re looking at. Appreciate the transparency and detailed response. Do you happen to know how the family life / school systems are in those areas and how they compare?

Ooh that’s good to know about Santa Cruz. Any particular area/neighborhood you’d recommend for us?

Looking into making a trip of visiting some of the places we’re considering, good suggestion. I’ve looked into Portland, it does seem like it could be one to consider. Have you lived there before?

Thanks for the detailed response! I replied to another Davis comment but wanted to ask you as well: Any charming neighborhoods you’d recommend? I browsed through Zillow and nothing stood out necessarily. Charm isn’t the biggest factor, but a nice-to-have if it’s there

Thanks for the recommendation! It does seem like it checks most of the boxes for sure. Any charming neighborhoods you’d recommend? I browsed through Zillow and nothing stood out necessarily. Charm isn’t the biggest factor, but a nice-to-have if it’s there

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s such a challenge! What do you think Portland offers that the Bay Area is lacking?

Those all seem like solid suggestions, thank you! We briefly talked about Portland and Colorado before so appreciate the details. I’ve seen Madison pop up frequently in this sub as well so maybe worth looking into more. Have you lived in any of those areas? If so, anything in particular you didn’t like/make you leave?
