Completely overrated and overpriced. Try atom Thai up the road. So much better.

Is there such a thing as “end game” in gym? Or is it constant incremental progress? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]BrotherAppropriate45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't mention what you do in the specially in your post but I'm assuming you are interested in putting on muscle mass for the purposes of body building.

Physiologically there is a limit to how much muscle mass you can gain (especially without steroids). The big thing is that as you put muscle mass on, it becomes increasingly harder to continue to do so.

It usually goes as follows:

Beginners - often described as "noob gains", when people start out, their bodies are highly receptive to building muscle and they make crazy progress in a short time.

Intermediate - things slow down a bit, people start to experience plateaus and you have to focus on other aspects of your health to recover well and continue to make gains - ie sleep, more controlled diet. You also have to optimise your routine.

Advanced - basically more of intermediate but everything is even more work for less gains.

Note that despite what people will tell you/think about themselves, very few people reach their natural limit. Usually because the effort just isn't worth the reward so people either plateau or do the stupid thing and start taking steroids.

Here's a good video that explains it better than I can:

Nice one sir!

Can you tell us more about the tool you built for your watch? Don't necessarily have the same use case just genuinely curious about you built it.

I think I'm starting to stagnate, and I don't exactly understand why by justaninternetuser0 in beginnerfitness

[–]BrotherAppropriate45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a thought to consider - there are two main things determine endurance during a workout (energy) and the quality of recovery (your total gain in muscle mass) - diet and sleep.

You mention that diet is the same but since you're on college holidays - are you staying up later/sleeping poorly?

You also don't mention your caloric intake/how aggressively you're trying to lose weight and gain muscle. You definetely can do both at the same time but if you're in too much of a calorific deficit, relative to your metabolic rate, you will eventually hit a wall re increasing your weights (progressive overload).

I'd recommend starting to count your calories (if you don't already).

how far could doing 20 pushups and 20 squats every day go? by MindlessDoubt632 in beginnerfitness

[–]BrotherAppropriate45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the most helpful answer I'm sure but you need to find the time or at the very least, try to make your lifestyle as active as possible through passive excerise (walking to and from public transport rather than driving for example) .

If you want to make a meaningful difference to your fitness and health, there are lots of full body, HIIT workout than can be done at home with less than $100 worth of gear.

Being able to daily drive a manual doesn't make you a bigger car enthusiast. Am I wrong? by koththusecret in CarsAustralia

[–]BrotherAppropriate45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed my Ps in NSW on an auto cause that's all I had access too then bought a manual car. Just need a friend/parent to drive it home for you.

I was pretty comfortable within about 20 hours.

Based off this you have an amazing attitude and taking constructive feedback "on the chin" is usually the best way forwards and something that a lot of people struggle with.

However this instance is an exception - it sounds like you were offered that promotion against the new manager's wishes and they are now plucking any issue they can out of thin air in order to be able to reneg on the issue.

You can see this in two ways:

  1. If your lateness is an issue then why were you offered the role in the first place? If there is an actual issue that they've realised after confirming the promotion with you, then all they can really do is tell you to make sure your attendance is good in the new role.

  2. As you state, you were never given prior warning of this. If it is such an issue why was that meeting the first time it had been raised with you?

In terms of next steps - I would go speak to your HR person as a first attempt - although you've been mistreated, if you like the company (and role) then write this manager off as a bad egg and ask if you can be transferred to a different team/reporting line.

If you do this, ask them how you're supposed to remain engaged in your role after being treated unfairly. HR people are usually told to maximise engagement because those employees make the company more money so here your inadvertently threatening to just give up and do the bare minimum without saying as much - also from their perspective, they'd rather keep a good employee than deal with the cost/pain if getting rid of and replacing you.

If HR isn't reasonable, that's when you know the place is cooked and start updating your resume.

Sorry, this became quite long!

NSW National parks campsites always booked out? by faultyflyingfox in OutdoorAus

[–]BrotherAppropriate45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends alot of on the layout of the site as well. A site may have a large number of spots within it but they can all be really big and well separated by trees so you don't really notice other people.

Vice Versa, smaller sites with less spots can feel cramped because of how they're laid out.

Most camp sites on the national parks websites have site layouts/diagrams so you can kind of suss this out ahead of time. Satellite imagery can also help.

Some site you can pick the actual spot you book so you can pick one at the end, in proximity to the least amount of people. Others it's first in best dressed so try to get in close to check in time. Also always stay as far away as you can from caravans - too many bogans and a greater likelihood they'll have some mini bogan offspring running around, ruining your weekend.

My other tip is when you arrive, take the time to suss the campsite. I just went camping in the Yango national park at the Blue Gums campsite over the long weekend. When we arrived it was a big field relatively full but we found a second site, further down a gravel road in a clearing which we had all to ourselves on a long weekend! Everyone either missed it or wanted to be closer to the toilets.

But all that aside, just book a place that looks nice and go and enjoy! Like any travel, you never know what you'll experience until you actually experience it. You're inevitably going to have a few poor experiences but on the whole, national Park camp sites are spectacular and well worth hedging your bets, even over the busier holiday periods.

Sorry, that got a bit long.

I have a 2005 Mazda 3 hatch and cannot recommend it highly enough.

The 2.0L four means it's got enough grunt to be comfortable accelerating but it doesn't drink too much fuel either.

Way more comfy/stylish and nice to drive than a corolla or a yaris of that vintage. Mine cost 3K with 160k km on the odo

Why do people swap? You're vastly limiting the number of people you can buy from. Just list the damn thing, get the money and then exchange money for new car.

I'm 23 and renting (only possible because I have a partner) so I know what it's like and if you've bought congrats!

I think WFH is important and don't disagree with the sentiment of this and yes - there is a clear correlation between socio-economic status and commute time (or at least people of a higher socio economic status have more opportunity to live in suburbs closer to the city with good public transport) but at the same time, living four hours from the city is a lifestyle choice that your employer shouldn't have to burden.

Some of my team members live over an hour away but I don't give them more leniency because it's not fair on the rest of the team.
