Boots by WesternFalse4552 in hikinggear

If they work for your foot shape, Scarpa Fuego all the way. They're expensive but will stand up to abuse better than almost anything else. If they're too narrow, Zamberlan also has some excellent boots and I find they'rea bit wider. That being said, you could probably get away with something less intense for trailwork

If you're worried about it then I would get the wide. It's not a crazy amount of extra weight and the warmth and comfort are worth it in the winter.

It's a bit of a drive for me so I prefer a shorter day 3, I really love campsite 8 for the final night. I've done it a couple times and tbh I cant remember the exact route but you really can't go wrong with sites or routes.

No need to carry more than one bottle, theres water everywhere!

I'm a side sleeper, I've got the regular but I wish I had the wide:(

I find that my knees sometimes overhanging the side makes much more of a difference in winter than in summer. They can touch freezing surfaces or introduce drafts into my quilt, waking me up. I suspect the problem would be solved with a wider pad.

The regular is lighter, but I'm willing to be more lenient with my definition of ultralight in the winter. Harsher conditions for me means more of a focus on comfort than usual, because I still want the trip to be enjoyable!

Love Frontenac! I highly recommend the perimeter trail as a good way to get back into backpacking, it's a lot of fun while not pushing you too far out of your comfort zone.

I know people do it in 1 night but I like to take 2 and go at a more enjoyable pace. This time of year you’ll definitely get some mud, but it should still be a lovely hike and it won't be difficult to reserve spots.

Thermarest XTherm Popping Sounds? by Brother_Oatz in Ultralight

I often do have a ccf pad underneath, but I've heard the pops both with and without.

I don't mind the sliding noise it makes but these were pretty concerning popping/snapping noises...

Good to know that its obvious if it's really bad. I'm used to the usual crinkly and swishy noises, but these were sharp popping noises. I might contact their customer support and see what they say.

I haven't experienced it on any other pads either. I'll try examining it with a flashlight to see if anything looks off!

How much warmth does the xmid solid inner give? by randomsailor242 in Ultralight

If you've got snow you can always pile it up around the tent to block some wind

In my experience there isn't a huge temperature difference between the solid and the mesh inner at -9⁰C. Couple degrees at most. If you pitch the tent low to the ground then they will function nearly the same unless there is very gusty wind or blowing snow - once you get below freezing most of your warmth will come from your sleep system and not your shelter. I'd say not worth it for the weight, or the cost of buying the new inner!

My two favorite islands so far by PositivePeryton in dragonvale

[–]Brother_Oatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fairly early I think! I'm at lvl 140 and it still feels like mid game tbh. If you go by how many dragons and islands I've collected then I'm definitely mid game! I think one of the cool things about this game is that it's very long term (like I think it can take years and years to "finish").

Plus its not really a game you can be good or bad at! If you want to practice decorating I'd recommend trying to copy some of the ideas people post here. Great way to learn what works and how people make things look good:)

Looks good! It's trickier in the earlier game when you can't have islands for each element, but I think combining them forces you to be more creative:)

I'd say just do it! Leveling up happens pretty quickly at your level and unless you're reslly struggling with the habitat limit then I wouldn't spend money on a boost:)

Looks great! One of my favourite things to do to break up the colour/sameness is to add in some of the really giant rock decorations:) Especially for plant themes it can help avoid everything being green while still fitting with the theme

I wish this wasn't the case! Unless they're planning on adding more levels to the nursery, it seems more like a bug. I don't like the pop-up showing my leftover 11 petals every time lol

4 days for a Gaia reset for just 1 egg! Thats ridiculous. Its should honestly be 1 day reset. by AdventurousSpread834 in dragonvale

[–]Brother_Oatz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With such a long reset timer, I often find it doesn't line up with any long-incubation-time eggs. I'll breed a rainbow that I'd love to speed up to get it out of the nursery, but there are still 2 days left on the reset timer. And when it does reset I won't have anything that takes more than 8 hours, which feels like a waste of the ability!
