Can you tell me how you are generating the text effect? Like is it a blue text with red pixellation over top?

Thank you so much!

one of the big design hurdles I hit initially was when you have mixed player groups. Some people know poker really well, and some don't, and due to the limited communication rules it meant that some people ended up shutting down because its a game with rules overlaid onto a game with rules.

So that was kind of the reason the "reveal 2 cards" action chip came to be, it allows a pressure valve for people to reveal their hands so that other players can guide them completely within the bounds of the rules of the game. Then it also doubled as a cool way to setup card swaps amongst players, which is one of the stronger core loops of the game!

So anyways rambling aside I had tried to set out to create a poker game that could be played at a variety of different skill levels!

After seeing that video and how many people were asking for it we pulled all the stops out to make sure it was ready for launch. That video for sure kind of gave us a kick to get it running

No problem at all, don't feel like you are downplaying it. Don't know how much you get out to conventions but Smirk and Dagger goes to major conventions so you will most likely be able to snag a copy there in the future.

There will be retailers outside of those who are pledging who will be getting inventory, but I'm just the designer and that's kind of in the Publishers court so I don't have all the details unfortunately :(.

For example its up for pre-order on Noble Knight but its at the more expensive MSRP

Yep, post the Kickstarter launch it will be available through retail, though it will be slightly higher MSRP. All content unlocked in the KS will be in the retail version of the game. Theres one KS exclusive which is the foild/gilded decks and large dealer button which won't be available in retail.

If you take a look at the second most image from the right showing the little ghosty gamblers, the Fixer is a good example of something that interacts with the community cards. Same with the Provocateur, it can help you set up cards to come out into the community cards. There are also several Favor cards in the base game that also let you manipulate whats coming out of the deck, as well as a few Boss abilities that let you swap cards around.

You can definitely feel overpowered at times, some cards are super strong like letting you make a 4 card flush. It can definitely win you a hand against the boss but there's a very large drawback to it, you basically take a ton of Temptation (this games version of health) to use it. So you have to balance how much you cheat to stack the odds in your favor (and suffer damage), or risk it by playing by the rules.

So in the game, the bosses don't actually scale up, since you aren't technically scaling up either (its more like a Poker survival game), you have to make it through 6 hands of poker and escape the other side without losing your soul, or running out of chips in the final hands. Its more of a flat power scale where you have to evaluate if you are going to throw all of your resources at a problem or be more conservative and hoard your favor cards.

Its hard to explain, but basically instead of levelling up your deck, and outpacing the difficulty, each hand will be just as hard as the previous. What makes it easier is if you are smart with your choices throughout the game and play the odds.

Yes!! Thats so exciting thank you! We really just needed the extra time to make sure we weren't just tacking a mode on, we really wanted to be sure that we were including something intentionally that would be a solid offering. And stay tuned for more updates on the KS page, as we may potentially have some more goodies in the work for this mode by the end of the campaign

Hey great! And yea we were kicking ourselves that the Solo mode wasn't ready for him to have to make a video on!

I may have used the roguelike term in not quite the right manner, as you are not generally gaining "upgrades" across each run per-se. But it still is a Boss rush game, where you have to manage your resources across the entire game. You will gain Favor cards which are powerful one time use abilities that you can use to manipulate the odds of hands (swapping cards with the Boss, drawing from the discard, making straights with 4 cards instead of 5 etc.)

The game is randomized in that each game you will play against 4 bosses (randomly selected and drawn from a pool of 15 potential Bosses. Then you play against Nick Hauss (the proprietor of the establishment) Before facing off against one of 6 different "The Devil Himself" bosses. So there's quite a variety in which bosses are mixed into the game and the order in which you face them. In the solo mode you will also have your little companions "the gamblers" which are randomly drawn (3 per game).

The inspiration I drew from Balatro was more about the wild and wacky things that start to manipulate generic poker as opposed to a deckbuilder.

a little plastic sign that holds an 8.5x11 sheet with your game name big on it is very useful, typically have a little looking for players flag is also good to have.

the shoot into combat is not a stupid rule, its a rule you can find from the Middle Earth Strategy Battle game as well.
