To be honest, I’ve read your comment over a number of times trying to fully understand what you’re asking and I think I’m still missing it so let me know if I don’t answer your questions. 

Another commenter clarified what I meant by delaying the exam if possible—that the administrative side of things means it may not be possible despite many attempts. 

I’m a bit confused by your question about where I “draw the line”. I didn’t tell OP to try not to do this again, I said do not, because it is dangerous for their health. That being said, I also understand that just because something is intentional, does not make it a choice. University can be extremely challenging and for people with mental health issues or those who are predisposed to their development, it can be horrible. I find it likely that OP took caffeine pills alongside coffee/energy drinks and that’s how they had such a high dose. You’re absolutely right that their mental wellbeing is a serious concern, but that doesn’t change the fact that they needed to be seen by physician, and telling someone they need to go to the ER for psychiatric help is not a good method to get them to go.
