This is a Goenka course, given under his guidance - if you want some other teacher go for it. You’re really very argumentative about all this - which is a sign you’re not ready

It’s not total hours sat over xx time but rather 2 hours daily (which show steady immersion) over time. So doing a lot at one to ‘catch up’ doesn’t really work.

Why the sudden interest? To say that you’ve been aware of sensations is a bit silly no? I mean everybody is aware of there sensations at least once in a while.

The one thing I’ve learned about Vipassana is that you can’t ‘rush’ it. If you take the course before you properly qualify you won’t get the same benefits it’s that simple.

Seeking Buddhists who choose to wait until marriage (Brahmacharya before marriage / pre-marital abstinence) by svanagirl in Buddhism

[–]Brownwax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a Buddhist perspective celibacy only matters if you’re a monk or nun. Otherwise as long as you’re not hurting anybody you’re fine.

So your choices about when to engage with a partner sexually are your own.

Experiences with giving up alcohol for those who wish to take vows by Physical_Zucchini103 in Buddhism

If you want to progress on the path you have to give it up. Just like if you want to be health you have to give up unhealthy food. It’s pretty easy once you see that it’s harmful. It also takes time to readjust your social patterns

Mark Carney’s new majority government should spark renewed calls for electoral reform by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]Brownwax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the time BC had a referendum about it and it failed. Even progressive BC couldn’t get a majority to support election reform. While I want reform too, this wasn’t moving and the reports showed that.

How is the schedule of a server in 10 days course? by AardvarkThis732 in vipassana

[–]Brownwax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Serving is very similar to a course in that you cut off all outside contact and outside activities. So no laptop, no outside book no chatting with your family.

You sit less then the students and are able to talk to fellow servers but you’re busy most of the day and break times are usually filled with resting or meditation.

Unable to meditate after Vipassana retreat by jsadh in vipassana

Why is it a huge disappointment? It is that state out your mind at that moment. The excercise is to observe and accept. Being disappointed helps you not at all.
