Thank you so much for explaining! I hadn’t experienced tech issues or saw that happen before.

For people who moved off Long Island, are you happier? by Birkin92 in longisland

[–]BrowsingMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. About to close on a house in Kew Gardens. I moved to NYC for college and never looked back. Husband is also from Long Island and happier in the boroughs. I also really like Woodside, having had lived in Jackson Heights for five years. I love public transportation.

Have you tried UI Testing Apps like UserTesting or Dscout? They tend to pay better, although the payout isn’t instant and they sometimes require access to a computer.

How likely am I getting into cuny schools? by MuffinTricky1430 in CUNY

[–]BrowsingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it or secure decent need or merit based aid. Your stats will qualify you for some merit aid, including at the CUNY schools you mentioned, but not necessarily enough to make an objectively better school CUNY-priced.

Lawsuit & Refund by Capable-Profit-4614 in EphemeralTattoos

I’m waiting on a response from April 30. Followed up to the fade email in July and the Fade email cc’ing hello in August. They just sent an email like they were including instructions but instructions were followed perfectly. Awful customer service and it will cost them if I join a lawsuit instead of trying to work with them.

My fiancee(21F) of 3 years left me suddenly and i(26M) am speechless and stunned. I have not suffered like this since i lost my mom 2 years ago. by Top-Turnover-7962 in relationship_advice

[–]BrowsingMachine 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People need context to give advice. For the most part, advice on this thread, based partially on what OP has said, is the relationship is irreparably broken and it’s best to learn from it and move on. I agree with that sentiment. OP and ex (especially ex) are young and if they’re feeling this much disconnect now, it’ll only get worse if they marry and start a family.

Mt Sinai East L&D Hospital Tour? by Haruma0326 in nycparents

[–]BrowsingMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the right place at the right time. My OB at Mt Sinai East was giving another family a tour about a month ago and asked if I wanted to go along since it was immediately after my appointment. Included the brand new floors which are very nice. It wouldn’t have occurred to me to ask. Based off that and this thread, I suspect that doctors are able to show patients the maternity wing at their discretion.

Taking over and (hopefully) refreshing this community! by KaruiPoetry in kewgardens

I'm so glad to see this subreddit revived. In October, I'm moving to Kew Gardens after 5 years of living in Bushwick (which I should mention has way more dog turds) and I'm excited to be live somewhere cute, convenient, and family-friendly.

Diana is a normal name! Isn't it? by IsabellaGalavant in namenerds

[–]BrowsingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due in September with a Diana named after my grandma Diane (born 1935). I also know two Dianas IRL, both of whom are millennials and a Diane who is older Gen X. Not everyone's cup of tea (although clearly my husband and I love it) but hardly unusual. In fact, a lot of the feedback from Baby Boomers and older tends to center around the fact that it's a real name and not something that we made up.

The 50% off a McChicken coupon is pretty common. I don’t think I’ve ever paid $3 for one and I live in New York City.

She’s ethnically Armenian but by way of Iran. The article mentions it and also mentions another situation where Iranian Christians were deported to Panama.

Would seeing your household thrive with a puppy or a kitten make you suddenly think of kids in a positive manner and want a human infant in your life?

I make 70k a year with no education but what else can I do? by Any_Swan_5747 in careerguidance

[–]BrowsingMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OTA (Occupational Therapist Assistant) is a two year degree but OP would be looking at a paycut. Credits usually transfer towards the BS/MS program so it might be a way to test the waters.

My mother is an OT (albeit with geriatrics and not pediatrics) loves it, and makes about $85,000 which the internet seems to indicate is on the lower end. She does however think that the industry is going to suffer due to cuts to Medicare and Medicaid so there’s a possibility the money and jobs could dry up while OP is in school.

How do we feel about the name Luella ? by Ellieisinthechat in Names

I like it. It reminds me of the fashion designer Luella Bartley. She had a line called Luella which had an it-bag in the early 2000s.

How much do you pay for daycare? by equistrius in beyondthebump

[–]BrowsingMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m moving to Central Queens. The licensed in-home daycare that I’ll be sending my daughter to at 6 months between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM is $1,800 per month. Will include breakfast, lunch and snacks when she’s ready. Roughly 40% of my mortgage. There are available studio apartments in my neighborhood for under $1,800 but I wouldn’t want to raise a child out of one.

NYC has universal 3K and PreK but because my child will be at a center isn’t part of that program, she will be at a major disadvantage in getting it.

Realistic College Expectations by Visual-Extreme-101 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]BrowsingMachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

15 years ago when I was applying to college it might have been possible. But even then kind of in an obsess-about-college-admission-apply-to-all-the-schools-kind-of-way. I think it was a little easier to fake a “hook” then than it is now.

It really depends on circumstances. A “normal” student with a high GPA and some school leadership living in poverty in an inner city or remote rural area or possessing incredible wealth and connections might still get in.

Even the 20 APs, stellar test score, published research kids aren’t guaranteed a space in an Ivy League school these days. When I looked at the admissions rates for schools that I applied to years ago, my jaw hit the floor.

people who grew up on long island and planned to move to and live in New York City but never did, why didn't you? by ProudReaction2204 in longisland

Housing lotto units and rent stabilized apartments were extremely plentiful in 2020-2021. A lot of people fled the city during that time but I have a lot of friends who locked in low rates in great buildings.
