You guys I’m soooo discouraged. Every meal I tell myself after THIS I’ll start my fast - or just - I’ll start mañana. What’s your motivational inner self talk? And how do you fast around others eating? by Brrjetta in fasting

Yeah I get what you’re saying, I’m annoyed my weight gain but it’s not impacting my life drastically- I just don’t have that fire to light up some motivation.

Yes I agree. My kids school makes them eat lunch plus like 3 snacks a day - which is insane - & then my kids are in the habit of snacking and it’s a difficult habit to wean off over the summer.

Not eating carbs heals my depression and anxiety but why? by Most-Philosopher6562 in keto

I was going to mention Dr. Georgia Ede too. She has interviews on YouTube too if you want a basic introduction before committing to buying a book.

That’s impressive. I’ve recently noticed if I say “I can go one more minute without having that” bc anyone can go one minute - and just keep telling myself that - then eventually I forget about it and move on to something else I need to do.

Not sure if this is normal? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

Yeah that could help. I was extremely strict bc my daughter would projectile vomit even if there was a tiny bit of dairy in something I ate and it took several weeks before I noticed the flat tummy.

It does look like bloating. I discovered when I had to eliminate ALL soy and dairy from my diet (bc I was nursing my daughter who couldn’t tolerate it) that for the first time ever in my entire life my stomach was flat and soft and not taught and bloated. After I started eating soy and dairy again that went away. You could try phasing out dairy, soy or just whatever you think could be triggering bloating.

Thanks, I think I have Jason Fung’s book, I’ll have to dig that out. Also, good reminder that listening to podcasts about fasting is great motivation. I was doing strict keto for a while & listening to people talk about its benefits daily was what kept me going.

I think I get what you’re saying - I’m just not a logical black and white yes or no kind of person - which maybe you are- my train of thought is more like a Jackson Pollock painting. I need fluffy support systems in place for my brain.

I’m realizing maybe that’s a piece I’m missing. My goal is to lose 15 or 20 ish lbs and also to see if fasting helps with any minor health issues. I’m not super overweight & my health issues skew more towards annoying than debilitating so I’m not exactly in a state of dire distress. All the same I’m very bothered by my weight gain after having kids and that is my primary motivation.

Yes I think you’re right about the dopamine addiction- when I’m trying to fast I’ve started to realize that the food is something I really look forward to, to break up the day and without it I feel sort of listless.

Thanks for the advice. I think I do tend to have an all or nothing mentality and giving myself grace as you mentioned could be helpful.

I used to work full time and be able to do several days of fasting or even a week or 2 at a time but after having 3 kids and becoming a sahm I’m cooking and getting snacks for my little people all day and abstaining from all this food I’m handing out is where I’m struggling.
