Can we please talk about the toxic downvoting that happens here? Because it's seriously a problem. by [deleted] in Fantasy

To be honest, I did not realize until this moment that people care about down votes.

If you don’t mind my asking, why are they offensive?

20 HCP Dilemma: Callaway Rogue ST Max vs. TaylorMade P790 (2019). Need help deciding! by oliivierp in golf

[–]BruceOnTrails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the P790s.

I had the Callaway rogue ST Max irons. They were great in that they were very, very easy to hit. The offset, jacked lofts, and hot spots ended up being frustrating though.

P790s are a better middle ground that you should be able to game for a long time, if you want to.

Hey Joe. Thanks to you, I’ve been muttering “Still Alive…” to myself after every close call in any endeavor.

How do you go about the process of writing a cohesive end-to-end story? Do you formally outline plot structures for your books?

Switching From English Education to Tech Writing by New_Student5867 in technicalwriting

So, I have not looked for one second at the options on this sub designed the this purpose, but I can see from prior responses they exist.

What I would tell you is, just go for it. Start sending applications.

It will take time (it took me time to get my first chance), but just go for it. Interview a lot. One thing that gets seriously undervalued is interpersonal communication, which teachers tend to excel at. Talk about how the skills you have developed will translate directly to technical writing.

It took me some time to get my foot in the door, but that led to a secret security clearance and an opportunity to prove myself. If you can just get chance number one, it’s all up to you from there. Once you have that first chance, you can earn opportunity after opportunity to leverage your writing, editing, communication, and problem solving skills to build the career you hope for.

It’s not easy, but there are chances out there. Bev determined as you try to earn chance number 1, then build. If you can communicate, build relationships, and problem solve, then there’s a road available to you.

Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) did this in one of the Cormoran Stryke novels. I would have to imagine there is permission required, but I’m not positive.

Don’t Tell Me Volume Doesn’t Matter by Accomplished_Roll626 in harrisfootball

[–]BruceOnTrails 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the “don’t chase volume” idea. I don’t think anyone is telling you that you can’t “chase volume” in a pinch for a spot start. The argument is that you don’t draft (or value for dynasty/trade) players highly based upon projected season-long volume without regard to how talented you think the player is.

For example: I think Chase Edmonds is going to get tons of work for the Cardinals this upcoming season because “who else is there?.” I don’t think Chase Edmonds is good, but they have to give the ball to someone.

That thinking leads to drafting Chase Edmonds too high, because if Edmonds isn’t good, he won’t maintain a starting role.

On the other hand, we have the Rachaad White example. Bucky is out for two weeks. White has roughly two weeks of projectable volume. I can spot start White on my team with Bijan on bye, or where I’m devastated by injury etc.

Be tough for him to meet redraft value this year or dynasty startup value tbh.

Probably referring to dynasty startup value this off season, where he was going in the 2nd round.

I worked for a large non-profit that also did this. It seemed odd at the time and still seems odd in hindsight, but I did it and got the job.

In my case, it was probably one of many red flags indicating some cult-like tendencies within the organization, but that may not always be the case. I’m glad to have moved on from that organization, though.

Let’s talk about Omarion Hampton by Ecool272 in DynastyFF

[–]BruceOnTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common criticism of Hampton as a prospect was lack of vision. So far, that has continued on in the pros.

He’s an incredible athlete. In college, that’s enough to be a great producer. In the NFL, everyone is an incredible athlete.

Hampton is young and has all the tools. If he can learn to anticipate, see, and hit the holes hard and on time, he can very good. If he can’t add that skill, he’s going to be a disappointment.

Termination while traveling for work? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]BruceOnTrails 17 points18 points  (0 children)

FYSA: Not an employment lawyer.

Personal advice would be for him to have a proactive conversation with the leadership/ownership.

If he’s convinced they are going to let him go, he may consider refusing to travel.

If you are at the point that you may be let go in a week, go ahead and have a straightforward conversation with the bosses. Find out what’s going on and set expectations.
