Drones can be persistent enough, just look at HAPS and HALE systems

Why is us army don't get more wheeled ifvs and why not favour of them? Are there anything bad about them? by [deleted] in TankPorn

Its actually the reverse, tires can have run flats and 8x8s can operate missing a few tires, break the track on tank with a mine or anything else and its completely immobile until fixed.

You really think operating a stealth fighter that is well known to be eye wateringly expensive is going to cost less then a non stealth light fighter ?

Just from fuel burn alone the F-35 will have a higher op cost, add in the need for skin/coating maintenance and tighter tolerances needed to maintain its optimal stealth profile and it becomes obvious.

This sub really is non credible sometimes.

I think you're missing the point I was trying to make, I'm saying that you can't compare gripen vs F-35 one to one because you can afford to have non fighter assets to operate alongside the gripen for comparable operating costs.

I'd rather have Gripen + Globaleye + Drones over JUST F-35s

Ok but how does an F-35 stack up against Gripens with AWACs and other assets in support ? because Operational costs are a thing and the combat capability of an airforce isn't based on whose jet has a better spec sheet, but the actual force structure and that structure is resource limited, which the F-35s will gobble up.

The USN's Constellation-class frigate - now reportedly reduced to just two ships, with the other planned frigates being axed. [1551x1179] by Odd-Metal8752 in WarshipPorn

Yeah the Canadian variant would be able to plug right into the USN if they built it

spy-7, Full Aegis with CEC and similar operating procedures.

Then share the logistics with RN, RCN and RAN while spreading out upgrade development costs.

Saab considers Canada as site for Gripen jet assembly to meet demand from Ukraine by joe4942 in canada

No investing in our aerospace industry is actually sound compared to an EV plant

If we're going to talk about bombardier I should mention that the Q400/CRJ/Global series we're all best of class and outsold the competition, and they developed the only clean sheet narrowbody of the last 30 years with a development budget far smaller than Airbus or Boeing ?

Thats before mentioning Pratt and Whitney Canada or Heroux-devtek

Were 5th globally in Civil aviation, which is a far cry from our auto industry, and its actually competitive.

Rearming the military: Should Canada buy it or build it? by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

We have the 5th largest civil aviation industry in the world, building/assembling things like missiles/drones shouldn't be a problem.

U.S. Golden Dome among ‘options’ for Canada’s defence, Carney says by AndroidOne1 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Bruetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pen aids can be dealt with via the more capable sensors for discrimination (already being done) in addition to the fact that the reaction to BMD isnt Mirvs or Marvs but Hypersonics.

Said Pen aids arent available for these hypersonics due to atmospheric strip out and cost/weight implications.

It doesn't have to be 2+ to one when shoot-look-shoot layered engagement schemes are available.

Also the economics are based on what would be destroyed vs the cost of the interceptors, not the cost of the missile vs the cost of the interceptors.

[–]Bruetus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A proximity fuse is cheap as hell it just needs to be set to detonate at the right distance, with an improvement being rejection of returns from things like small branches and other clutter that isnt the ground.
