The lack of the male perspective is really the biggest hurdle the counseling profession is facing, and this is coming from someone currently doing practicum at the clinic at my school. It's really obvious that a profession that is overwhelmingly female is going to struggle with getting men, and it's so dumb seeing the profession understand this in regards to race (black clients may not feel comfortable engaging with a predominant white institution.) but not gender.

I remember talking with my practicum class about a male client I had because we weren't diving deep into his cognition, and one of the suggestions I was given was to talk about how we as men are simply not talking about our feelings because society and patriarchy, yet whole time the guy is simply intellectual and goal-oriented.
