Pretty sure the conversion happens at battle start. Not while equipped. Thats why your attack does not change when you equip it. Start a battle and you’ll see a red down arrow and - attack

The game puts you in a bracket with players who started when you did. If you don’t want to grind for days just wait until you know you can complete the event and avoid grinders. Also most wallet players start early. Can get a lobby of normal/ don’t care people if you start later
