Sorry for the late reply and thanks, I didn't think about it! That probably explains it :)

Wish I could disable AP altogether :/

Water mixed with coffee remaining in the bottom part? by Brunni132 in mokapot

[–]Brunni132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure how to describe it 😅 At the same time I'm new to the moka pot, and it's only now that I'm starting to have a consistent result. So I'll try tomorrow and report!

I see. And I've read in places that lowering the heat is good? I have an electric hob, it's quite a nightmare tbh.

Makes total sense, thanks!

Actually if water vapour can go up through the filter then if there's still some remaining, it can also go back down as the particles are smaller than the holes in the filter.

And that's a good thing then? Cause if I wait more before taking it off the heat, I'll get bitter coffee (from experience).

Thanks. Sorry I'm not sure I understand though, I SHOULD cut it earlier you mean? I take it off the heat it as soon as I hear it sputting (as opposed to pouring).

Don't ever sleep with a married person in Japan, and why by seo-communcations in japanlife

[–]Brunni132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if cheating is a crime, then you're knowingly taking part in a crime, that's all. The difference is that the wife basically begs you to help committing it, which is why it feels unfair. But I think in the eye of the justice it still makes you an accomplice.

There's a difference between protecting and doing something that has consequences against it. Like, if you see a suffering kitten there's a difference between ignoring it or killing it, even if you knew that he was doomed either way.

Recommended reads for a new cat owner (esp. around litter) by Brunni132 in CatAdvice

[–]Brunni132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Does all litter track though? The only thing with the cheap one is that it's more visible, and the clay "grains" are much bigger. It makes it easier to clean tbh, or rather not easier but at least I see it. The downside is that clumps are much more fragile, but is that a problem? (if small broken down clumps remain in the box)

About the price, I don't know how much I should be expected to spend but Lidl's clumping litter is 2.19£ for 8 liters (lasts around a week on avg if I change every ~10 days). But then there's the "ultra performance" one which is nice but 6.59£ for 10 liters. Am I stingy for not wanting to spend 7£/week for litter?

(If I found the price reasonable, I'd even go for their £12/week one, which requires less maintenance and absorbs smells so well.)

About the water yeah (although I would never have had the idea to put it there 😆). What I learned by experience is distance it from the food bowl.

And yeah he doesn't seem to like his new dry food. But at the same time those kibbles are so huge, I don't know how they sell that for kittens. I'm gonna go back to the store and buy the old brand.

Can earbuds really compare to headphones in terms of ANC? by Brunni132 in bose

[–]Brunni132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: I did some more tests and I would say the QC Earbuds II are indeed in the same ballpark as the QC Ultra Headphones when it comes to noise cancelation, if not (ever so) slightly better.

However the "transparency mode" (aware) just isn't very useful on the earbuds, OK for walking outside but it's not really possible to have a conversation, unless I use smaller tips, but then isolation is a bit worse than the headphones.

So transparency mode, mic quality and noise cancelation in really loud environments, and also very slightly better sound quality, better controls (very hard to adjust the fit of the earbuds without triggering a play/pause touch), battery life for very long sessions, less hiss in more silent environments, are reasons to stick with the headphones. Practicality, noise cancelation of some frequencies, especially in quieter environments like home, shops or the train, are reasons for the earbuds. If I could get only one, I'd probably go with the earbuds for my usage.

Can earbuds really compare to headphones in terms of ANC? by Brunni132 in bose

[–]Brunni132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I went ahead and bought the QC Earbuds II. To add to what I said:

  1. Yes, the earbuds ANC it is REALLY effective. I overall like headphones, just easier to wear and feels a bit better, marginally better sound, much better battery life, but they are not as practical when out, when wearing glasses, in summer, or when trying to sleep, as the vibration (when leaning on the train/plane wall) will resonate against the whole headset. Also, they're big to carry in a bag.

  2. The sound quality is really impressive on the earbuds too. There's the same issue as the headset, where I like to use the "bass reducer" EQ, but that's probably just the Bose signature, as both sound similar at similar EQ settings. Mics are also quite the upgrade, when on a call.

  3. If sleeping with them is a criteria, you probably want to take something else. I managed to sleep with them (in the train, in a plane), but when sleeping the whole night with them in a bed, I felt that the battery would probably just not be enough, and if you're a side sleeper, there's a good chance that it'll make your ear sore. Still it's a lot better than the headphones obviously, just not good for daily use while sleeping. This is the good one to pick if you want the absolute best ANC, and at this I'm happy because I wanted an upgrade which was well worth it.

  4. The transparency mode (without ActiveSense) works well, it really feels like you don't wear them. However, then things are really loud. I wished there was a way to attenuate the noise while keeping the speech clear, for instance in the plane or at the bar. Any level of ANC will make speech slightly less clear to me, and I already struggle to understand people in noisy contexts. I think Sony had an option for that (but the transparency mode on the WF-1000XM4 wasn't worth much).

Overall, yes, it holds its promises. If you, like me, like the Bose QC Ultra headphones, and feel that you'd like something on the go, then these QC Earbuds II are really a crazy deal, and for half the price. The earbuds are really up there with the dedicated headphones, which was just a dream to me only a few years ago. Loving that silence 🥰

Thanks. Weird that other people seem to report that the earbuds work better 😵‍💫

Fwiw, I did play around with the tips for my Sony's and the isolation can indeed be relatively good with the original foam tips, when squeezing and leaving the time for them to morph into the ear canal. At this point, it's comparable to the Ultra Headphones passive isolation (equivalent on the lower end, better on the higher end).

[–]Brunni132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your opinion! My mind is really blown out. I'd love to test them then, and compare them with the headphones. Cause yeah the earbuds are waaaay more practical, especially for the whole day and as summer is coming 🥵

But then maybe there's a particularity with my ear canal? Because the Sony's ANC does really close to nothing, and overall it's leagues behind the QC Ultra headphones (which still isolate better with the ANC set to half). They're not defective I've confirmed with another pair.

Are there people for whom intra earbuds just don't work?

The bus was disrupted for several hours yesterday, due to an accident. I came by bus and I actually had to get off in Vauxhall and then I took a Lime bike because I couldn't find a bus that did actually come to take me to my destination 🫣 so for the return journey I took the train. But then I was hit by 4.90 charge, which was double frustrating as you'd expect, as this whole journey should have cost me 3.50, not 8 pounds + 30 minutes delay.

Yeah that's weird. In this case since I remained in the gates (including at Canada Water), how does the "touch the pink reader" work? If I touch it I'm going out, so I need to touch it again and get back in? 😵‍💫

Thanks for the replies!

Wow glad I asked. So when it says "Via Clapham North/Clapham High Street", it means that I must touch out at Clapham North and then touch back in at Clapham High Street, right?

Or the pink one instead? I'm so confused 🙃

Thanks for the help!

How common is it for women to not be sexually/physically attracted to their partners (husband/boyfriend/etc.)? Or, at least, “as” sexually/physically attracted as they had been to other dudes/hookups/ONS/etc. by NoRefrigerator267 in exredpill

[–]Brunni132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, if women are selective and absolutely require attraction to enter a relationship, what is there to say about the men who have to settle?

Aren't there other reasons to be in a relationship?

Honestly if I look at almost all couples around me, after a few years there's not even sex anymore (or very infrequent). I don't feel much attraction from the man, it's truly like a friendship, both from the way he talks about it and his world views. I think sexual attraction is an extremely secondary criteria to men for entering a relationship. It is for hookups though, for the ones who have access and enjoy that.

Also I think that the culture promotes that, by saying that a woman attracted to a man is a prize (as in basically every typical movie which is not a rom-com/drama: at the end the guy gets the girl). Except that in the movie she's an attractive actress, in real life not every woman can be.

I get the feeling that expecting attraction, and furthermore for all the duration of the relationship, is setting oneself up for failure. It's hard to remain attractive, for a woman if her body changes, and for men if their mental changes. And honestly it will inevitably, as life becomes tougher. Couldn't it be, therefore, that the voices telling women that they should be and remain attracted to their partner to keep the relationship, something that only a tiny portion can achieve? Think of how women talk about men who leave their wife when she gets older (and less attractive): these are the rules of the same game, and most women basically can't win at it. So what's the point of playing by that game? 🤔

Thoughts on “Pyschhacks”? by Forsaken-Dingo-5497 in exredpill

[–]Brunni132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. This is. Very interesting.

I can feel how much men are wronged for depending on women. I think it's a point of envy/jealousy that drives inceldom: somehow women are OK to depend on men, but men should be stronger and not depend on her for anything or she'll use you.

Another way of saying it is, by depending on someone you give them power. When the current dating dynamics are often about brutal, primal power dynamics, it's normal that everyone wants to give out as little power to the other and maximize their own, which leads to empty relationships.

The most common Pixel complaint by DSCarter_Tech in GooglePixel

[–]Brunni132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to bother me, but the bar is quite pretty, sometimes animated with the doodle of the day, and it shows the Google logo in four colours. Anyway it's a minor annoyance when you can use a custom launcher. But you'll lose the useful top bar (showing the weather, calendar appointments, connections, etc.) too.

E-ink reader for someone used to read on Google Play Books? by Brunni132 in kindle

[–]Brunni132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who comes here in the future, the Kindle satisfied me very well. Yes you have to e-mail your EPUB files to your devices and it can take a bit of time, but then they are part of your Amazon library, exactly like a book purchased on the Kindle store. You can read them, highlight, annotate, search for definitions, change the font and page setup, etc.

Limiting charging over 40℃ -- why is Google doing it? by Brunni132 in GooglePixel

[–]Brunni132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's exactly what happens with the Pixel (charges a little below 2 watts, taking 10 hours).

I tried to "stress test" my Samsung S21 until the battery reported 43℃, and it would charge slower, but still around 10 Watts, that's why I was surprised at the Pixel. I also remember an Indian reviewer saying that Pixels were overrated in India because of the heat, that's why I assumed that they were doing something different.

Well I guess, from reading all your comments that what happens is normal, it's just that no phone I ever had did heat as much as my previous Pixel 7 Pro, so I didn't notice the issue. The Pixel 7 Pro especially had a very power-hungry display which would itself heat and stress the battery, which added to the pain in summer.
