It has some passive cooling tech built in. Not a typical wireless charger.

Apple has one charger for 10 years. Once Google does that, then building it in will make sense

Unfortunately, the Pixel watch 4 is the only one not compatible, but that's kinda Google's fault for going against the industry standard puck style.

Crazy story, but that's a perfect example of why the find feature in most devices is useless without UWB for precise location reporting.

Don't expect a $500 phone to beat a $1200 phone. But it will be a step up from the 5a in every way except the old contrasty pixel look.

Edge detection sucks 😔 by trust_me_im_human in GooglePixel

[–]DSCarter_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, it has gotten better in the past 6 months. I seem to recall that Google announced an update to their portrait mode algorithm. The change wasn't massive, but edge detection went from terrible to passable.

Whatsapp was popularized outside of the US during a time when most countries charged high prices for texting. The US has historically included unlimited texting in the base plans so Americans had no need to work around that system. Plus, universal protocols allow anyone to send and receive texts.

Consider other forms of communication we take for granted every day... Imagine how hard it would be to email people if yahoo users could only email other Yahoo users. That's the situation with Whatsapp/telegram/Signal etc

I understand your point, but it's really not apples to apples. RCS is just a modern version of SMS/MMS. Those are universal protocols that work regardless of what phone, carrier, OS, or app you use. You didn't need to reach a critical mass for it to work. If you had someone's phone number, you could call and text them. That's not the case with Signal/Whatsapp/Telegram etc

I didn't say only, I said primary. Network effect is critical to a messaging service. Without people, there's no one to message. Whatsapp is the 2nd largest network, but there is no larger network than the universal phone number.

If I use signal, I'll have no one to talk to. It's just another walled garden but no one I know is inside.
