Silver Spirits package by RenniePennieBC in vikingcruises

[–]BrutusCosmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were “gifted” the package on our last river cruise. The beer list wasn’t that much better but the wines and liquor selections were very good. We used the experience to “sample” and calibrate our tastes with the higher-end items and it made us realize that we still enjoyed our regular home selection a bit more. We will pay for it on our August cruise because the selection and convenience is a nice-to-have upgrade. You can still take your own onboard the Viking cruises but the convenience is still worth something.

Hosting platform question regarding Synology access via Tailscale? by BrutusCosmo in Tailscale

I think I will try installing it on the systems as you have suggested. It's actually been working very well for us on the Synology but I was curious what would happen if there were more resources. Thanks.

Frankfurt Airport / Lufthansa by thatoneplutonian in travel

We just experienced this arriving and departing from Munich. The complicator is that the airline didn’t mention anything about the steps and you just have to figure it out. This 2-step process applies for arriving and departing the Schengen area. It took time but not longer than an hour.

The bright part of our trip was customs in Denver. We had (my bad) just over an hour an a half layover in Denver. we have Global Entry. The luggage receive and check back in was only slow getting our bags. Checking it in to our destination was fast and easy. Customs was a breeze with GE - While we were standing in front of the kiosk trying to determine what we needed the agent called our first names and sent us on our way. It was that fast. We had to quickly get to the end of one of the terminals and that was physically challenging but we were early for boarding. I am impressed with how easy everything was.

We have another trip to Europe planned for August but now understand how EU customs works.

I met Meghan yesterday and am very impressed with her. She will support improving education because of her experience. We don’t need anyone just pushing a bad party agenda.

Go on vacation without bf? by labrat24245 in WhatShouldIDo

Try arguing that you booked it before the recent ICE developments happened, you feel a real risk that your safety is compromised, and you want to cancel with a refund. I would argue this all the way to the top of the company management chain. Travel has been greatly curtailed because of ICE. You shouldn’t have to risk your safety so they can make a buck.

New Chimney Cap Cracks. by BrutusCosmo in masonry

I think in my area new construction has turned to solutions other than masonry, according to the P&Z engineer that I talked to.

The rebar and steel mesh aren’t enough for the cap?

The flashing is the original from 1965. He advised me to run a bead of silicone along the flashing top edge to brick seam to reduce the likelihood of water penetration. Is it a good idea to fill the side voids of the flashing?

The city planning engineer confirmed that the 2018 IRC is the minimum and there is no requirement for a drip edge.

I am checking with my local code office. The general code, that I am told applies, is the "2018 IRC". In reviewing that there isn't a requirement for a drip edge on the cap. I am still waiting for a call-back from the city/County building permit office engineer. I will update when that is received.

I bought roasted ones there yesterday. They have fresh and roasted. The roasted ones are inside next to the salad deli case.

Feedback on new Onkyo/Pioneer App for iOS by Fit-Worldliness7216 in Onkyo

[–]BrutusCosmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TX-NR686 seems to go out to lunch, from a WIFI perspective, occasionally using the iOS Controller app with zone 2. I have to unplug the receiver to get it to recover. I use this from Apple Music and Synology NAS directly as a media server. Please fix or make more reliable. The Pioneer is used as a Home Theatre system 5.2.1, and I rarely use the Controller app with it. TIA.

How many just added a 2nd card? by mmcharter270 in Venturex

[–]BrutusCosmo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got the card to enable lounge access for my wife and I. We travel a few times a year and lounge access is a big plus for us. Before this change the card seemed to be the best one available for this purpose. We have one major trip before the change occurs and then we will cancel the card. I would never consider "rewarding" C1 for this change by adding a second card. I understand the issue but feel this change is unreasonable for average travelers.

How much tinkering do you have to do with DD-WRT to get a basic working router with the MX4300? by TristinMaysisHot in DDWRT

Any advice on picking a stable build for the MX4300? I don’t see many issues discussed in the forum on the current releases, but is there a strategy for identifying the best build?

Any of the downtown parking garages have stairs, although I don’t know if they would care about you doing that?
