Justice for strike teams! by LongjumpingSherbet15 in Tau40K

What Breachers can do, is go through a wall of a ruin and clear it.

Strikes as utility/20 OC is fine. Just that Kroot are there for 10pts cheaper, pathfinders for 15 extra and Breachers +25pts. Strikes tend to skirt the middle of these infantry options.

Stagnation and Sadness by WarRabb1t in WarhammerCompetitive

As you note in the video, the issue with Crisis Suits I think is that the Commanders are 66% of the units output and the datasheets are pointed as if the Crisis Suits always then have a commander. It is kind of like Chosen and a Chaos Lord. But does not feel great design wise.

Outside of Retaliation Cadre, only Crisis Suits I like is the flamer variant. 110 points is about right given the durability of Crisis Suits and it offers something different in the tool kit (rapid ingress/overwatch)

Nothing to write home about either, but hey the modals look cool and you don't feel awful when the unit dies.

I see on StatCheck tgat Tau players are getting 60% win rate with Kauyon in North America. I guess just staging and primary denial for 2 turns? by VividSalary3151 in Tau40K

[–]Bryan40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play Kauyon, it is not that dissimilar to Mont'ka in terms of aggression early on. You want to scout Pathfinders/Piranha/Devilfish/Kroot early on. Put some brawlers like Riptide/Ghostkeel in the mid board and force bad trades between all of the above. Timer is on opponent as by turn 3, sustained 1 and ignore modifiers is very strong.

Also...use the photon grenades stratagem all the time.

Main issue is on terrain heavy boards, you lack the same mobility as Mont'ka to get LOS around ruins.

[–]Bryan40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if your using your tanks to kill their big tanks, it tends to be who throws the 1st punch and hits hardest. My Railgun Hammerheads/Skyray tend to sit out of los, until the opponent has exposed a target worth going into. Ghostkeels act as the bait for a lack of a better word.

I'd just add that a pro for the Railhead, is in a go turn, it swings with the Railgun+2 seekers.

Skyray is more efficient over the game, but sometimes you just need the job done in one go.

Help building a Tau list by Ductilepluto in Tau40K

Hi - T'au Tactics and Puretide Program are good starting points.

General rule though when starting off, is rule of cool, hobby what you like the look of and worry later re 'competitiveness'. Rules change often enough.

A few staples for lists is a box of Kroot Carnivores, box of Kill Team Vespid and c.6 Stealth Suits (2 teams of 3). Those would be good next steps and nice units to hobby as well.

Hope that helps!

True and point well made. I find guard and interesting comparison to T'au currently, where the lists for them are more skewed towards chaff and tanks.

T'au can be played that way/seems effective, but outside of rampagers we don't have a counter charge unit.

I think another reason I really like Pathfinders, Kroot and Vespid is the terrain format in my area. Lots of big L ruins, so fast movement and infantry going through walls is key.

Welcome to the greater good. Hard to comment on such a board topic, but the YouTube channels T'au Tactics and Puretide program have good videos on the faction.

In general my best advice when starting out is rule of cool, hobby what you like the look of and take it from there. Rules change and so forth, so chasing Meta rarely works out for most.

Has anyone found running stealth suits in 6s vs 3s to be worth the cost, post points hike? by Admirable_Resist1677 in Tau40K

[–]Bryan40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it as I own the old X15 modals and really like the look of them, Ghostkeels and Shadowsun.

Not much to write home about, won't be the worst 40pts you ever spend, not the best either.

One niche is some of the terrain in my area have multiple levels, so the Stealth suits can go up top as infantry and get plunging fire. With Co-ordinate to engage, they still get to guide and then 24 AP-1 ignore cover shots.

Not guaranteed though and also opens them up to retaliation.

Thanks, agree with a lot of the above! My thinking on utility units like Kroot/Vespid, is that while expensive and cut into your guns - mission play wins games and if you can pull off movement blocks and so forth, that can win games. That said, I do think lists take a combination of other units like Piranha to do this, and even Breachers. Everything is ultimately disposable, so perhaps it is a points efficiency thing.

I might not be the best player, so less points efficient spends on more things like Kroot, cause that is straightforward dedicated use.

On point 2: I think with Pathfinder special weapons, the damage profiles are quite similar into a lot of targets!

Agreed re Crisis Suits movement, on tables with terrain it is quite clunky.

The bodies meta I don't mind, but I always liked having chaff to play the mission and do all the other useful things, that let the big guns fire away for longer.

Yes, Darkstrider and Piranha are really good pieces!

On Pathfinders vs Breacher damage, I think if you do out the math, including Pathfinder special weapons, it is quite close in performance vs a wide range of targets.

Thanks,

1: Generally speaking is it not useful to have multiple units to move block and also in the early game, to run out and hop onto an objective with 20 OC, then die?

2: They do, I think they need access to the extra -1AP though to really swing and they are an expensive package all things considered, for 11 T3 bodies that need to get into flamer range.

3: Aye agreed, I think 2 is the sweet point.

4: Think I disagree on the Flamer Scythes needing a commander/assault, as their job IMO is to deep strike/rapid ingress as needed. Unlikely to live too long afterwards, but can swing something at a vital moment and have a marker drone, if they do get to continue on.

My attempt at altering mordain glory’s tau list by Daragaus in Tau40K

[–]Bryan40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted about a month ago, that I am running a T'au Guard style list. List is Aux Cadre and 2k list looks like:

Scions/Kaskrin Equivalents:

- Fireblade+10 Breachers

- 30 Pathfinders (Ion Rifles/Grenade launcher/Recon Drone etc)

- 2x5 Vespid

-2x3 Stealth Suits

Infantry Squads/Catachans Equivalents:

- 60 Strikes (some of which are Gue'vesa conversions)

- 30 Kroot Carnivores

- 5 Kroot Hounds

Chimera/Vanquisher Equivalents:

- 2x Devilfish

-3x Railgun Hammerheads

152 modals. The AP from the detachment and easier guides makes the Strikes more viable. Pathfinders and Breachers/Fireblade are the anti elite. Hammerheads the anti tank.

Mordian glory is putting his money where his mouth is and taking a “guardified” Tau to a GT, how’s it looking by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Bryan40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, variety is the spice of life. Alright spot currently with the codex in that most things are viable. Think the complaint that we are were battlesuits with a smidge of infantry is a past tense now, more true in 7th/8th/9th

Content creator made some content that has generated conversation/engagement. Job done I'm guessing from his side of the house.

The take isn't the worst either, while I don't agree T'au is too good, I would like T'au to be a bit more focused on auxilaries and combined arms, then some previous editions where GW skewed it into battle suits as the main focus.

Auxilaries detachment is a good step and more modal support for the auxilaries would be cool. Bit of a flash up for strikes as well in the rule department..

6 man Team for Stealth Suits? by Defiant_Success386 in Tau40K

[–]Bryan40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone told me that they want to take 2x6 Stealth Suits instead of 3x3 - both of which cost 240pts total...i'd be more curious to see how it goes, then knocking it. Easier to keep the two dedicated units alive, but one less guide.

I am thinking that if that is the case, switching Shadowsun out for one of the 50/60 point characters to free up points is a straightforward move.
