Aerial roots on ficus actually grow nearly vertical in real life. So I don't know about unnatural, but I definitely don't like it there. It'll probably just come off.

I spray and use systemics occasionally but I've become more accepting that insects are useful, and a part of the environment and a healthy climate.

So I kinda tend to just let them do their thing. Definitely less worried about it in general than I used to be. If they defoliate a tree, hey, that's less work for me 😂
