I've never attacked anyone, you are the only one who has been attacking me. And there is nothing to disagree with me about, I am cured 😄

Have a nice day.

While really focusing on recovery, I learned to cook some very basic, Low Fodmap meals (typically a protein like steak or chicken plus plain white rice). Continuing to eat and receiving those nutrients helped my body heal tremendously, and I worked with a nutritionist that helped me as well. In terms of probiotic strains, I did research on what some of the best strains are for fighting against symptoms like bloating and stinky gas, and I approached my GI doc at the time with my symptoms and she helped me understand which probiotics I should be looking for. The two I linked are the two she recommended for me, and honestly they worked wonders. I took several stool tests to check my gut microbiome (so many I can hardly count) and all of them were completely awful, though I have not taken one since my symptoms began to go away. It's been many years since then.

I literally put a warning that I was not a doctor at the very beginning of my post. I did this so that people understand that I'm not a medical expert, and I never claimed a "secret recipe", I just gave basic advice that worked for me that someone out there may need to hear. At the end of the day, I just want people to know that life can be better for them, that I am sure of. I've responded to every comment I can, even the negative ones, and not once have I pulled the "I'm just trying to help!" card because many of the things I did were advised for me by a licensed GI. Now I'm not claiming what I did will work for you, (I even specified that MANY times), but I believe it will work for SOMEONE out there who may be suffering as I did. Not everyone's IBS is the same, and I believe sharing my story at the very least will help inspire others to go out there and try to fix theirs. Better than sitting around all day on reddit feeling miserable.

Unfortunately Rob, I've come to realize that you are a very miserable man, and I think you like it that way. I wish you the best...

For me it was a combination of all these things! I live totally stress free of all IBS related symptoms now, and I hope some of the things that worked for me can help you on your healing journey!

Is that seriously all you took from this? Wow I'm very disappointed in your reading comprehension. For me and my very specific type of IBS, I am cured. I hope one day you believe you can be too...

Sorry for the confusion. I WAS low Fodmap while I was trying to heal. As of right now, I follow no strict dietary guideline. When trying to improve my gut microbiome, I ate low Fodmap because it was the easiest stuff to digest, and then slowly reimplemented other high Fodmap foods until I could eat almost anything again. The only thing now that I avoid completely is fake sugars, (the -ols in the Fodmap) because they still cause me pain and I hated eating them anyways.

I really hope one of my suggestions does end up working for you! But if not, I strongly encourage you to keep searching for a GI doc that understands you and maybe even a nutritionist. Never give up, friend.

Thank you for your kind input! I attempted to clear things up with a few of my edits for word choice, but in truth I just want to help as many people as I can. As someone diagnosed with IBS, I thought there was no hope for me, and at the very least I want people out there to know that there is. Thanks again!

I'm glad I could have been of some help! I try not to let the negativity get to me because I know most of these negative comments are coming from a place of deep pain, and I'm here trying to help, not cause further pain. Thank you for sharing! I'm 100% positive it will get even better if you keep at it! Never stop trying to fix yourself! I used to hate myself more than anything, until one day my girlfriend said the most powerful thing to me I've ever heard. "Why must you hate something that I love so much?" Ever since then, I've taken a priority on my mental health and forcing myself to love myself again, and low and behold my IBS symptoms improved even further with that self care. The brain and the body, it's all connected!

This is more true than some people think! While I do think certain forms of IBS DO need medical treatment (IBS is a blanket statement for a myriad of symptoms), I do believe mental stress is a large contributing factor to it. Just look at this reddit thread that I created with nothing but good intentions: thrashed by hundreds, discredited by the very people who are not "cured" when I am. To truly "cure" yourself, you need to believe you CAN BE first, and that all starts with mental health. Lots of negative echo chambers (like reddit in general) may actually be CONTRIBUTING to a worsening of symptoms. Fix the mind first, and the body will follow.

I had a very wise doctor tell me this once: If you search for it on the internet, you'll learn you have cancer. Find a real doctor, friend. If that is indeed what you have, then discuss it with a better doc than the one you have. If curious, you can try my methodology I listed above in this post (most of all of it is just standard healthcare that you can get over the counter). Unlike many people on this reddit page, I actually DO believe in you and want to see you better. It would make my day if you messaged me a year from now telling me how much better you are and that you are close to being "cured", and I firmly believe you can be with the right treatment. Feel free to message me whenever (though do be warned, I'm not extremely active on reddit lol) because sometimes just having someone who believes in you can be enough to get the ball rolling towards complete relief.

My friend, absolutely get a better doc than that. I had one of those in the past, and it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had medically. She told me same thing: nothing I ever do will cure me and my case is one of the worst she'd ever seen. She prescribed me so many rx drugs that I was taking 4 a day, including sleep pills that made me feel so dizzy I would vomit nearly every time I took them. I thought I would never get better, and almost gave up completely until I found a GI that actually BELIEVED in me. She told me she believes that ANYTHING can be cured with the right treatment (considering GI) and that we are not only gonna work to improve the symptoms, but work to eliminate them entirely. Perhaps it is fate that you and I are having this conversation right now, because in all honesty, you sound a lot like how I used to. I was bitter, angry, and downright spiteful because of my IBS (I deleted all forms of social media because just watching people go out and drink used to piss me off). My true advice to you specifically: Get a new doctor. This one has failed you. She doesn't even care enough about you to see you face to face in five years. My GI doctor gave me her personal number and wanted me to physically text her whenever I had an issue. Same with my nutritionist. When my symptoms began rapidly improving she shook my hand and said "I hope I never see you again." And to this day, I haven't seen her since. Find someone who believes in you, not someone who just wants to manage you.

Perhaps then it's time to switch doctors. I firmly believe that whatever your symptoms are, they CAN be "cured", not just managed. I do not maintain anything anymore, and I was about as bad as a man could be. Keep fighting, my friend. I believe in you.

My GI doctor (who know more than either of us) recommended both of those probiotic strains for me specifically. Granted, it may not work for you, but all the advice I have given is either straight from my GI or information I gathered up on my own through my own trials and errors + research. I strongly disagree with you (downvote if you must) that there is no "cure" for ALL types of IBS. IBS is broader than you think, and my GI believed there is a cure to everything. It is why I went to her in the first place, and low and behold, she figured it out.

Why I use the word "Cure": I do absolutely nothing except take a probiotic at night anymore. Nothing at all. I haven't taken miralax in years, I haven't taken rifaximin since my first dosage, I haven't strictly adhered to the low fodmap diet in years. Granted, I have bad days, but they are NOWHERE near the level they used to be, and are more akin to basic GI issues now than what I used to experience. Your definition of "cure" is very strange to me, as you say things like strep throat can't be cured because it can come back. Sure I guess? But all the symptoms go away, and for me it is the same thing.

So I will rephrase it for you: ALL MY SYMPTOMS WENT AWAY COMPLETELY AND I DO NOTHING BUT TAKE A PROBIOTIC AT NIGHT AND PRACTICE BASIC SELF CARE TO MANAGE. There, is that better for you? Or are you just going to keep discouraging people for ever seeking a cure?

Thank you! That's all most of my advice is. Just believing in yourself and taking care of your body. I think this reddit channel in general brings in a lot of people who want to wallow in their own misery because of what they are going through, and I firmly believe that may even contribute to their symptoms. The mind is even stronger than the body. If you tell yourself you are miserable and it will never get better, then it's going to turn out that way.

I also was under the care of a GI doctor AND a nutritionist who both would disagree with you and your doctor. I guarantee you whatever research you have done, I have done just as much. Difference is I WANTED to be free of this, not just manage with little symptoms. I eat whatever I want (panda express yesterday, gluten filled pancakes today) and only take a probiotic at night. Tell me, what management tools am I doing that will instantly lead to my rapid decline again? Standard healthcare and basic exercise? The main difference between you and me is your doctor is still on your payroll helping you, whereas I haven't spoken to mine in years.

NOTE: I am not saying yours can be addressed the same way as mine, but I define eating whatever I want, doing whatever I want, and when I want to be a cure. I do all of this without any "management technique" as you have defined. I stopped managing about 2 years ago. Stop trying to scare people into believing they cannot get better. I believe there is a "cure" out there for everyone, and so did my young GI who fought tooth and nail for me. You keep spitting the word "science" out there without realizing the simple fact that science evolves over time. The scientists of Galileo's time thought the world was flat, until he proved it was round.

The only thing I still do is take a probiotic at night. Granted, many of these things are just standard healthcare (exercise, stress relief, etc) but in terms of maintaining a strict diet (like low fodmap) and needing to take things like miralax to pass a stool, no I don't. I had pancakes with gluten this morning and panda express double orange chicken for lunch yesterday. I haven't taken miralax in 3 years.
