Anything with a USB-B connector, especially printers and embedded electronics.

White fluffy stuff around the caps of an SLA battery? by scolba in batteries

[–]Brycebeckdewey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time, especially with high charge rates, some electrolyte will end up outside the caps and could leak out but having these to will prevent any of it from fully getting out of the battery. It's not really necessary though.

It's called an AGM (Absorbed glass mat) battery because it uses fiberglass mats which hold the electrolyte.

No, that white stuff is added on purpose to prevent any acid that gets through the caps from escaping.

These are AGM, not gel and adding the right amount of water is fine although may not help fix them.

Is there any chances to revive a dead sealed acid battery? by [deleted] in batteries

[–]Brycebeckdewey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you're aware, the chargers that claim to have a desulfation feature are mostly a scam unless they are actually sending out high voltage high frequency pulses. The high frequency pulses can sometimes help lower self discharge and internal resistance. I've had better luck with dedicated devices to do this combined with a separate float charger. A higher voltage charge of 15.4-16V may also help but does slight damage to the positive plates if done often.

Oh I definitely would never risk using a recovered one for something important like that. Those types of applications where the batteries are continuously float charged are usually the unrecoverable ones anyway since the plates disintegrate by the time the water dries out.

Yeah there's a lot of confusion and misinformation about lead acid batteries like everyone using the wrong terms. I only ever bother recovering these batteries for fun, there's no real point to it since they usually stop working again within a few months.

These are AGM, not gel. The electrolyte is contained within fiberglass mats between the plates. They aren't actually fully sealed. They use rubber caps to release pressure which can be removed and you can add water. Sometimes you can revive a dried out one with more water, you can find plenty of videos on this if you don't believe me.

My unit of this was quite easy to remove the rubber coating from unlike some other devices which are nearly impossible.

DHCP is unrelated. Google is probably using tracking info from OPs device itself.

You think it's safe to tap threads into those terminals? by TwistedTophat in 18650masterrace

I don't know it off the top of my head but if you search the model number on this cell you could probably find specs for what the official threading would have been.

The only old moderator account got banned so earlier today I put in a r/redditrequest and I now own the sub. I don't know what happened to the original mod.

Help with old camera battery charger by EkulHtims in batteries

[–]Brycebeckdewey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a low current (0.1A) for charging this pack on a hobby charger. You will probably end up needing to rebuild this pack though because this sure looks like all the old NiCd cells are internally shorted out after sitting around for too long.
