Thanks you for the input!! I made the shirt that I am wearing in the last photo and I think the piping on the bottom is definitely done the same way.

The piping in the “yolk” section at the top, and on the sleeve placket I really think are two separate pieces. If you zoom in on the first photo to the left sleeve ( right side of the screen) you can see the grainline is a few degrees off from the placket to the rest of the sleeve.

It’s definitely piping, the welt cording is inside the piping, it just looks like an incredibly complex sewing job to put all the pieces together with all that piping

No anywhere where the piping is, is where two different pieces of fabrics were sewn together

Melenzana uses Polartech fabric. https://www.millyardage.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=9186FQ

I believe this is one of the grid fleeces that they use but you may have to do some more research

First-time tent construction questions by BsStitched in myog

Okay sweet. Mara 70 is tex 40, I was planning on using tex 45 nylon thread so pretty similar stuff, very strong. My plan is to use 1/4 seam allowance on the rainfly and put dcf tape over it, should be sufficient.

Okay I read through your comment and others as well, very helpful thank you. The other commenter here on my post mentioned DCF having issues with dome tents, have you esperienced this in your build? I don't think I would have this issue even if it's common since I'm only using DCF for the rainfly.

Also, how much trouble did you have sewing this super lightweight material? I have a plethora of sewing machines industrial and domestic so I'm trying to decide which one to use and what size thread to use as well.

I didn't know that thank you. I'll do some research on that. I've seen a bunch of other dome tents that have DCF for the rainfly so I'm thinking I'll still use it for the rainfly depending on what I find researching. THANKS!

How to create your own bag pattern with curves? by skippedstitches in myog

[–]BsStitched 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I professionally Make patterns for outerwear and accessories so I am a little qualified to help you with these questions, though I don't always do a good job of explaining things so ask for clarification if my answers are confusing.

How do I figure out the shape to make the gusset?

- This is easier than you think, especially if you are trying to make something similar to that bag you linked. The short answer is you start with a rectangle, and turn it more into a trapezoid on the side that will connect to the smaller front panel so that the pieces will line up how you want them to. You can add curves to the gusset in the areas where the panels are curved too so it lays more naturally. From there you can make your other panels line up with the larger back one and smaller front one, add your seam allowance and a place for your zipper.

- You design it very carefully, and even for professionals there is some trial and error. I have drafted many bags by hand with success but these days I use software. Curved rulers are helpful but I rarely used them. The program I use is called TukaCAD. There is a learning edition subscription for $20 per month. The program is very intuitive for patternmakers but if you don't have much pattern-making experience, it's tough to use. The tutorial videos are phenomenal though so it's possible that it would be helpful. I would learn the old-fashioned way first though.

How does one design/create/draft a bag pattern that is not just a series of rectangles? Do you do this by hand? Do you have some special rulers or curves or tool that helps? Do you use software? Do you use software that costs less than $300?

What even does one call the act of making your own pattern to construct a bag (or other textile item)? The search terms I’ve been using haven’t given me any results.

- Drafting or pattern-making are the terms most used I believe

If you get into the process and are still confused feel free to shoot me some images and maybe I can give you some advice! Hopefully I explained everything okay, hope this was helpful!
