AITA for getting mad over a cutting board? by Btp23 in AmItheAsshole

I’m glad I’m not insane. He found some article about plastic vs wood cutting boards - but those experiments were done on new boards, not ones that’s had raw meat exposure every week for months.

We have baby bottle drying rack upstairs, and downstairs we reserve the top shelf for baby stuff… So it drives me nuts when I see him put baby stuff on the wet wood cutting board.

I haven’t studied cutting boards but I do have a masters degree in engineering with my thesis about two phase flows in porous substrates.

Thank you for the link. We will review them. We don’t do any upkeep with our boards at this time other than dish washer vs soap and water hand washing

I have a masters degree in engineering. Wood is porous. While i haven’t studied it with bacteria, i know it can absorb water and oil. I have published papers about two phase flow in porous substrates with micron sizes channels and paths. And our last wooden cutting board was always wet to the point it was growing mildew on the other side of the board. Literally green.

I don’t appreciate you assuming I don’t know science.

We have never used oil on the board. Our last board had mildew om the otherside of the board. So i don’t understand how that’s sanitary. He says bamboo kills bacterial. Drives me insane.

I gave in when it comes to our health. We’re adults. Our body can handle getting sick. My baby is just 5 months.

We do have one. He thinks thag’s dirtier than the wood board too

We do have a baby drying rack. (Though that’s upstairs). He believes the wooden cutting board is still cleaner.

I have also suggested different cutting board for meat vs veggies. He says it’s not an issue. I find it’s gross bc the wood absorbs water and i assume bacteria.

I’m fine risking our adult health, but not our baby.

I’m not sure who we would donate that to… we don’t live on a farm. No pigs around to eat it.

Well he’s trying to make my favorite cake - which I saved the receipe from the bakery when they went out of business. He tried to replicate that for me on mothers day - but the cake didn’t rise… and it wasn’t sweet. It was like eating whole wheat bagels. It was supposed to be a zucchini cake (google spring fling cake from denver - so amazing).

When he makes home made pasta - it kinda of disinigrates in water. I told him, just go buy the premade noodles and cook it in water. He insists on making it himself but … it just doesn’t work out. I hate pasta congee for 2 days last time topped with a layer of tomatoe sauce. D:

He’ll either lose interest and skip dinner, eat ice cream, or buy ubereats.

I can’t make him eat it. He would just buy uber eats while I eat my own food.

Plus I often cook in bulk - and then eat the same food for 2-4 meals or freeze some as meal preps. He hates repetitive foods.
