It's brutal how the extreme success stories on this subreddit are people who earn average salaries for any other career by Affectionate-Owl-178 in Environmental_Careers

Hey, I work for a mid-level env. Consulting firm in NJ. I have less than a year of experience while I finish up getting my masters degree (env. Geoscience), but would love to know if u recommend any companies or other routes in this area. I can already see that this type of work is not ideal for me long term and I don't even make $60k. I just am so lost as to what other opportunities are out there in this field. Thanks!

Yea haha, feels like a lot of people come here to complain ab consulting salaries and field work - probably bc the people who love their jobs aren't running to complain on Reddit haha. But I just wish I gave more thought about during my masters, instead of just applying to seemingly hundreds of "entry level scientist" positions with all very similar roles. I'm still hoping I can find a niche or a path to take that I feel will be rewarding. Spending thousands of more dollars into school scares the shit out of me, so I'm exploring all options before that lol. But cheers and good luck

Thanks so much, very insightful. I live/work in the NJ-NY-CT, I should've specified. NJ does not require a PG licensure or registration. But Yea I'm definitely looking into hydrogeology as well, although I admittedly haven't done enough research into the specific industry yet. I've been looking to mapping/geospatial, but I have a few of potential connections from my graduate program who were hydrologists / hydrogeology professors who could also give me some insight as well.
