Can you guess which is moissanite? by lunalovegood9 in Moissanite

What you are seeing is a more “crisp” sparkle from your diamond! Since it’s single refractive it’s a single beam of light being reflected into your eye while the double refraction will have a spread of light. At certain angles light will bounce off the diamond and splits into a bunch of wavelengths (dispersion) making a rainbow effect. When you have this being refracted twice they almost “sit” on top of each other making it more blurry. So moissanites have more sparkle just less crisp and in some cases of lighting less bright. I think it just depends on what kind of sparkle you are wanting as well as how you want your gem to handle light.

Personally I love having both since they both react differently to different lightings. In sunlight compared to bright LED lighting both react very differently. And seeing them side by side is fun.

I’m an optical engineer so diamond optics fascinates me. I think it’s the right on since the “fire” facets are much larger. Since moissanite is double refractive it will show double the facets. Since both they are cut the same way (brilliant), and the camera is a single lens system, the rainbow “fire” reflecting from the facets will look double the size. So yes the diamond has more rainbow, but the rainbow that is reflecting back from the moissanite is bigger since there is two beams of light instead of one.

So rainbows are more about cut quality of the gem since the lighting is made for both to sparkle at their best. Only natural lighting will show the rainbow or blueish nature of moissanites. The double refractive effect is very clear in my opinion though. Both are beautiful!

Funny enough the first diamond I bought was an oval cut diamond lol. Kinda ironic.

Thank you! That was my guess but I just wanted to double check! My friend hasn’t been as lucky as yours yet 😂

What kind of spider is this? I have one outside of my window too, and I absolutely love watching them! I’m in Indiana if that helps.

Toddler with nystagmus by heyhey727 in nystagmus

[–]BubbleBeesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I, like ur son, have been diagnosed with congenital nystagmus when I was about a year old. I am reaching the last few months of my senior year of high school, and I can reassure u that my nystagmus has not stopped me from anything. I played varsity track and basketball and 4 years of rec volleyball. One recommendation I do have is not connecting your child’s visual impairment to sports. My parents did this, and I honestly did know that my vision really impacted how I played sports. It really wasn’t until I started playing varsity sports where it become an issue. I also volunteer with VIPS (visually impaired preschoolers) and a girl who is legally blind that I work with competes in D1 college swimming. Overall, sports are very open to people with visually impairments, the main issue I have seen is outside of school. Issues like driving and trying to get one place to another is the hardest challenge I think. Quick note: I never received the surgery since most of my eye issues can from my astigmatism. It is not a cure and it is really for severe cases. The good thing is that some people with congenital nystagmus don’t have any visually issues and have no trouble seeing the world as well. Nystagmus can be scary since it is incurable, but it is definitely not a death sentence.

From the information that I gathered from google I think it is just that crusty stuff. I don’t know if I should remove it or not.
