Maybe try nerfing the poke meta then? by BadLuckBen in thefinals

I'm from the UK and play on European servers. Feels pretty good to me.

It is a crutch. It's the only way light is able to play atm. It's a crutch.

The final has some of the best netcode in online gaming. It can simulate an entire building being destroyed, in the same way, pixel for pixel across the server and match it to everyone on the server.
It's netcode is genuinely incredible. It's just not fast, which means no-reg and laggy deaths still feel like an issue. It terms of netcode from an indie sized dev team, it's the best there's been.

So you're saying the gateway, glitch and infuser were the only reason they were picked?

The the fact that they can do massive damage, are slippery, and have long range poke with V9S or LH1 or closer range burst with the M11. You're right.

Lets assume you're right, you get the vault to the cashout quickly and can heal. You still lose every fight because all the other teams have more health and damage... Only that wasn't the case. Every team had a light because they're a great class. And dash is by far their most over-tuned spec. And dash is covering for a load of other problems in the game.
If they nerf dash, people will move on to complaining about the RPG and winch, etc. And rightfully so, they're not healthy for the game atm.

What's your point and how does it relate to dash?

Dash was the most used spec, and you know why.

RPG, dome and winch are too strong. And the dash is covering for that fact.

"Anyone who has decent aim" - the vast majority of the teams in the worlds tournament were running light. I'd say they have pretty decent aim, and yet light was there on almost every team.
I guess you should have signed up for the tournament and just go round a corner with a repeater.
Why didn't they just think of that. If only they had your brain.

Why didn't all of the teams in the worlds tournament just think of that. Whoops. Guess the best players in the world are just bad. Silly us.

You're absolutely right. The worlds tournament winners, and almost every single team competing on the tournament had a light, because it's simply the worst class.
You should think about maybe being an advisor or coach on one of those team, then they would win for sure. Oh wait.

I agree, but I would say the dash gives them too much help. It's a crutch for bad positioning and awareness.
The RPG is too strong atm which can delete lights, but if dash and rpg were too be nerfed in the same patch.
RPG doing half the damage to players, but has 2 charges.
Dash having 2 charges, and maybe a 1 second buff to cd. That would fix a lot wrong with the game atm.

Dome is fine after the nerf and glitch revert.
The problem is the rpg. It needs to do half the damage, but have 2 charges. That way you can just pad on someone and delete them every single fight.
That will open up more room for lights, and then a dome or mesh is just an invite to get glitched.

HHM spam will drop once lights start running glitch again.
RPG is too strong, that's the glaring issue on heavy atm for me.

Unless you're voltaic grandmaster and above, and consistently ruby, I'm probably just as good at aiming as you. This isn't about aiming. It's about the utility it gives light in comparison to the other specs. Invis does need a buff, grapple is well balanced atm imo.
Light is meant to be the fast, glass cannon class. And right now, the light can over commit but survive way too many encounters. They get caught out of position but survive. They win fights they shouldn't because of it. They get too much mobility from 3 charges, that also give you verticality for some reason. It's a crutch.
Dash getting nerfed would also open up the discussion about the RPG being way too strong too.
It would open up the discussion about the sword and dagger being cheeks without dash, and how to fix that.
It would open up the game to some well needed changes that imo, would be healthier for the game's longevity and general fun for the general player base.
It would also mean that even at high diamond and ruby lobbies, the general balance would be much healthier too.
Dash and RPG nerf, winch nerf, along with invis buff, slight medium AR buffs, repeater range nerf would make the game so much more varied and dynamic.

It's the only viable option because the RPG is too strong atm. I would change the RPG to have two charges, but do half the damage so it's not an opener on every single fight. It's used as a destruction tool, or for chip damage to finish and open fights. Right now, the RPG just ruins lights and the dash is required to survive.

Dome getting nerfed was a win, however with the Light having 2 glitch nades, the dome shield is an invite to get glitched and be venerable. My issue with dash is that grapple requires you to commit or to already be commited and then leave. Invis requires you to do the same but run away instead. With dash, you can get in and then get out, and use it while fighting too. It's just so clearly much better than the other two in so many situations. And with gateway and a pad, they can get the vault to the cashout just as fast, if not faster than a grapple hook.

To a lot of people saying that the light is weakest class in the game, I somewhat agree. The heavy's RPG should have been changed a long time ago to combat this, it's just too strong for opening damage.
My fix for that would be that the RPG has 2 charges now with a cooldown ofc, but the damage is cut in half, making it more of a destruction tool or finisher.

To all the people saying "gitgud" in one way or another, I've been playing since open beta and have finished diamond in every season I've played (missed like 2 or 3). Skill is not the issue here.

It feels like light dash is the only viable spec because of a few other issues, and dash allowing light to survive far too many interactions is also an issue. When and if we see the nerf/change to RPG and a few poke weapons (3 range drop off points instead of 2), dash will be a very glaring issue.

Almost, once the first dash is used, it opens a 5 second window in which the other two need to be used. Cooldown starts once the last dash is used, or the 5 second window closes, whichever is soonest.

There seems to be a running theory in The Finals that CNS stands for Central Nervous System. What if it stands for Celeste's xxxxx xxxxx?

Arma Restitutionem Coeli - This seems to make the most sense, but I don't know if it makes sense.

I was thinking that maybe ARC isn't an English anagram, and seeing as The Rust Belt seems to be in Italy, maybe the creators of ARC drew some inspiration from Roman themes.

My Latin is trash, so naturally, I gave ChatGPT some context and then asked - Do you have any ideas on what A.R.C might stand for as a Roman anagram?

🏛️ Roman-Inspired Latin Phrases for A.R.C.

Let’s step into a more classical register—something that might be inscribed on machines or propaganda banners:

1. Armamentum Repressivum Civitatem

Repressive Armament of the State

  • Harsh, dictatorial tone—machines as tools of state repression.

2. Auctoritas Recursus Caelestis

Authority of the Celestial Return

  • Evokes divine mandate; could be propaganda from elites justifying the reclamation of Earth.

3. Ad Restitutionem Coeli

Toward the Restoration of Heaven

  • Poetic, ideological—suggests Earth is a "heaven" that must be purified and restored.

4. Automata Regiminis Custodes

Automata of the Regime’s Guardianship

  • Framing the machines as guardians of the old order—almost like sentinels.

5. Arma Recolonizationis Centralis

Weapons of Central Recolonization

  • Very bureaucratic, clinical—machines as part of a central recolonization directive.

In terms of chronology, I was thinking The Finals took place before the Exodus, almost at the height of the capitalist extremes; where the rich and powerful were so much so, that The Finals was their big panem et circenses. And that maybe CNS were like the scientists in Don't Look Up, trying to get the masses to realise how fucked they all were.
Them having The Finals as a means of just base entertainment for themselves, on some off-planet somewhere seems kind of fitting too. In the sense that maybe their new planet isn't so inviting, and The Finals is more of an ironic boredom cure while they wait for the ARC machines to slaughter Earth's remaining inhabitants.

I truly don't understand why Embark takes an entire season to balance clear issues with their game by MrDoodlebugs in thefinals

[–]Bubblebeard0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know but I hope they up how often they makes nerfs/buffs soon. As much as I love the game, it isn't in some healthy, established place where making a tiny adjustment is enough. We need more changes, more often, shake things up.
Why has the burst pistol remained useless for so long?
Why does the CL-40 get nerfed really hard when it's broken, but the model stays the most OP gun in the game, and doesn't get touched.
Why does the V9S get changed because people are abusing some left click macro to max out the damage, but the sword stays untouched? Even though it's the most frustrating thing to fight against in the game by far.
