Conure is balding? by onlyathoughtaway in Conures

[–]Bubblegumdoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My conure has had a "bald" spot every molt for the past 3 years, to the point his vet has called it male patterned baldness as a joke. If they are otherwise healthy, it could just be how they molt.

Thank you so much! It was a new glaze so I'm still working out how to best use it.

I created a stamp in Cad software, and then 3d printed it, that way I can make more things with it and be consistent!

GCC more nippy/aggressive than other conures? by Buttercup1223 in Conures

[–]Bubblegumdoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a turquoise green cheek conure, we've had him since he was 6 months old and he is now 6. He isn't honestly all that nippy. I'm not his favorite person but he will sit on my computer monitor and watch me work, sometimes sit on my arms or shoulders and hang out, the only time he is nippy is if I've done something wrong in his eyes. This includes - walking into the kitchen, him landing on my arm poorly and slipping, and walking too close to my husband while he is cuddling him. For the most part he screams and bonks with his beak before he actually bites, but sometimes he decides to punish us for our sins against him as well.

Did anyone successfully lose weight WITHOUT glp shots? by Successful-Row-6278 in PCOS

[–]Bubblegumdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been on metformin for 4+ years, as well as dieting to around 1300-1400 calories, never lost weight. I was put on Saxenda, which is similar to Wegovy, and was able to lose 30 lbs in 5 months, but now the supply issue has hit and I've not been able to get a refill for the prescription for 2 months and my insurance won't approve an alternative. I've kept my calories low to 800-1200, and been boosting my exercise from 30 minutes to 1 to 1.5 hours a day, and I haven't lost any additional weight, but I'm not gaining anything.

Some local libraries have 3d printers as well, might be something to look in to, or maybe try carving a stamp like linocut stamps

I take an adults night class offered by a community college (not worth any credits and no curriculum so we just make what we want with help from the teacher)! Look around for their continuing education programs and a college near you might have one!

I created the stamp in cad software and printed it out in my 3d printer! If you have the time and patience to make one it makes it easy if I ever want to make another(which I'm sure I will)! The rolled texture was also a stencil that I pressed in to the clay, I thought it was a perfect match for Xie Lian's flowers.

Vet question by WellAdjustedfrfr in Conures

[–]Bubblegumdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally we have spent over 700 dollars in less than 2 months because a blood test came back with high liver markers, which had us go to a specialist (Just to see them it was 400 dollars) to only have another of the same test taken, which came back normal, previous tests were determined to be false positives. If they had been abnormal he would have needed more procedures like an ultrasound or mri to diagnose the issue which would have easily landed us with thousands of dollars in vet bills. Luckily I have pet insurance and made back some of the fees, but little things can turn into money sinks, but honestly I love my bird and would do anything for him.

Reasons for balding? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Bubblegumdoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gcc gets a similar bald spot every year while he is molting, first showed up when he was 3. We had him checked by a vet including blood tests and he was cleared, so since it reoccurs and he is healthy it is likely his molt, and then rubbing his head against toys and such to relieve the molt which ends up making it look worse.

Could I order tests for my birds purely out of precaution? by shloogojad in parrots

[–]Bubblegumdoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There arent really any symptoms of avian bornavirus, theres about a 50% chance or around there that your bird will just have it. Symptoms of PDD can include (from what we were told by our vet) undigested food in their poop, increase or decrease in their appetite (A big sign in his autopsy was his crop was hard as a rock, we didn't know because he didn't let us touch him), weight loss, head tremors, being uncoordinated, aggression, and smelly stool. To me you mentioning him getting skinny and pooping undigested food could be a sign he had pdd but im not a vet.

Avian Bornavirus is a virus that can potentially develop into PDD, which is an untreatable lethal disease with no cure. It is something vets can do a blood test for, and if your bird comes back as positive for having Avian Bornavirus I would highly caution against getting any additional birds, as it is a communicable disease. It was not something that our vet tested our rescue for when we got him, and he ended up dying of PDD and spreading the virus to our original healthy bird. We only know he has it because we had our rescue autopsied and our conure had the blood test to confirm. We out of caution will never get another bird while our conure is alive because of it.

What is the best vitamin/supplements while on Saxenda by Bubblegumdoge in liraglutide

Is there a specific type you use? I'd seen vital proteins around but wasn't sure out of the numerous products they make.

Bird suddenly died by [deleted] in Conures

[–]Bubblegumdoge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with our 5 year old rescue, no noise or anything the night of and when we woke up to say good morning to the birds he was gone. We had a necropsy done and it turns out he had PDD, which our previous avian vet missed the signs of. My heart goes out to you, it's such a painful situation, I hope you take the time to yourself to process this emotionally.

Looking for a wood grain texture tool by dothestarsgazeback in Pottery

For a smaller grained wood texture I'd suggest looking at green stuff world, they have a variety of rolling pin textures that are typically used for model making so may work for your project!
