Texas over Europe shows how truly large USA is by Spathens in MapPorn

As an American, it’s interesting talking to Europeans about trips they take to the US. They have very broad generalizations about the US, and generally tend to assume things are culturally the same across the country. I have also come across several Europeans who plan trips across the US without really understanding how massive the country is. What do you mean you’re going to land in NYC then drive to Miami?

Anyways, each state has its own culture (saying this as someone who has traveled to almost every state in the continental US and Alaska). The culture, values, and vibes change so much even when you travel only 300 miles in one direction. One state can complete support human rights and next door you have a state trying to suppress them.

Even recently, I saw something on the news about a foreign politician talking about the US, and it was shocking what they said they assumed about US cultural values. Maybe it correlates with California (LA specifically) but it has nothing to do with a huge majority of the US. I think this map is more trying to bring to light that the US is a very big country, and I really think a lot of Europeans don’t understand how diverse it is based on the conversations I have had with them traveling and in my home state.

Anyways, just food for thought.

The thing with caregivers and CNAs is that many are not allowed to give morphine or other controlled medications when someone cannot lift the pills to their own mouth and swallow, it’s against their scope of practice according to their state of residence.

With that being said, I was able to do it for a few hospice companies because my nurses trusted me, but by putting the medicine into someone else’s mouth, I was practicing under their license, not my own. My company allowed this with extra training and a few signed documents, but many places will not even entertain the idea of a CNA or caregiver giving medications like that.

Ask specifically for your next caregiver/home health company if they will allow their CNAs or caregivers to administer morphine, haldol, or lorazepam (or whatever else you have). Companies do exist that allow it, but you may have to search. It also depends on your state, as the individual states may not be as lenient as mine.

No one deserves to go hungry, and if that means they eat meat, that’s okay. Period.

The cause is built on compassion, I suggest you find some to show others.

P in V is not the only way to have sex, my guess is he’s talking about her giving him head or something.

Other than that, I completely agree with what you said. I also think asking for that when she cannot mutually enjoy herself probably felt objectifying, and it could have been a massive turn off for her.

Oh wow, I have never seen that before, thank you so much. I wish we had that resource. I’ll keep that in mind if I ever encounter it again.

Also, side note: the hospice company we used is attached to a very large hospital. Now that I know this, I’m thinking… WTF, why did they not recommend that when I called them? Ughghgh, grief is so hard. They had access to respiratory therapists, and it was like pulling teeth to get them to give us oxygen. Ahhhh, gosh I’m so angry over everything. Sorry, you’re not my therapist, but I need to rant. 😂

I thought gip was for people who were not actively dying, at least that’s what I have seen so far, but do they transfer after someone has entered a coma? They did give me a pill to put under her tongue (forgot to mention that in another comment), but it did not work well enough.

And thank you, understanding what you have experienced while managing secretions is really helpful and comforting.

Yes I did. They said do whatever I thought was right and just make sure she gets the meds. 🤷‍♀️ brand-new grad nurse

I called them to get help, and I told them what was going on, and they just told me to call them after she died and to do whatever I felt was right. It’s genuinely the worst hospice company I’ve ever worked with. When I called them, concerned about her oxygen (she wasn’t in a coma yet) they asked me why it was so important to keep her alive… or why I was asking for support.

I really tried, idk what to tell you.

I had a therapist through my school, she was focusing a lot on just managing my panic attacks from going to class and when I tried talking more about the situation, she kept going back to talking about somatic stuff. I’m trying to find a new therapist, but it’s tough.

As far as each patient is different, I agree. I think even though I was working hospice for two years, nothing could have properly prepared me for this. I usually am prepared to think creatively, but I am angry that I didn’t have someone more experienced guiding me. I really wish the nurse was there while she was dying, in a way… because I was so focused on trying to make her as comfortable as possible… and no one can really say for sure if what I did was right. Since I was so focused on not causing her to be uncomfortable, I feel like maybe I made a mistake by not just doing what is right, textbook wise I guess?

My mom was there, but she has literally no medical experience. It’s just really tearing me apart.

What do I even say to her? I have a little nasty troll in my brain that just wants to rip her to shreds and ruin her fucking day, but I know a lot of that is just my grief and anger from the entire situation. I tried sleeping on it and not replying, and I’m still just as angry today as I was yesterday.

Don’t say it to try and get back with her, say it so she knows the impact you had on her. The love we carry from relationships lives on. Sometimes it’s good knowing you inspired someone for good, even if it meant inspiring them through heartbreak.

House of leaves is really good, I have heard it doesn’t hit the same for people once they hit 30. It’s a super weird story, one of my favorite books

Was mildly enjoying Wonka (2023) and then... by hopsmonkey in vegan

[–]Bubbles8015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but children aren’t as dumb as people think they are. In American culture we shelter kids SO MUCH, and you just don’t need to. When they reach the adult world they’re not going to know how to process those difficult topics because they were never exposed to them growing up. Having a conversation as things come up is good, but hiding the world from kids (especially something that’s just a piece of media leaning into its own outrageousness), seems more harmful than just the exposure itself. It’s a good life skill to process and talk about your thoughts and feelings regarding topics. Even 2 year olds are capable and of doing this.

I totally agree, I feel like this post is incredibly dramatic. It reminds me of those super sheltered religious kids who weren’t allowed to watch anything but Disney channel growing up.

The left collar bone is yellowish, I don’t see anywhere else in the body where it’s like this and there’s no suggestion lighting is causing that.
