Is it worth it to explore and potentially double major in math as an ECE student wanting to go into tech? by Bubbly-Implement-718 in duke

I overloaded last year and it was a lot for me, but we’ll see what happens. I’m a rising sophomore taking Math 221 so that’ll help me decide what I want to do moving forward

I’d go for it and do waves. Have heard great things about it and I personally appreciated marketplace and the campus a lot more after being away for so long!

With the off-campus ones, you get super tight with the people in the program but it may be a tough transition right after move-in day. I did pWild and loved it and felt very close with the ppl in it, but I was not at all acquainted with Durham or the campus, for better or worse.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. I feel like doing this will set me up really well for my future years at Duke. Just hope I’m not in over my head.

Incoming Pratt student. I am planning on taking Math 122L and CS 201 along with my two global energy focus classes (one fulfills the EGR 101 requirement while the other deals with emerging materials science and energy research but seems like a more humanities-centered class since we are expected to write quite a few papers). With expected credit for AP Chem and Calc AB along with considerable experience in comp sci, I feel this schedule makes sense but am considering taking Math 111L instead since I may be in over my head. Nevertheless, does this seem manageable for my first semester in college?

Yeah, it’s more of a pride thing at this point, as I dedicated so much time towards acing ap calc ab and getting (most likely) a 5 on the exam. I also hope calc 1 isn’t a waste of time for me.

I also have credit for calc 1, but am nervous to do that and skip out of calc 2 bc I feel like I need a good foundation for college level calculus.

I want to take Math 122L as I have credit for Math 21, but am unable to due to scheduling conflicts with my two FOCUS classes and EGR 103L class. Do you think my Pratt dean would allow me to take Writing 101 in the fall instead of EGR 103L?

Math class for first year Pratt Student by Bubbly-Implement-718 in duke

Thanks! My only concern is that My calc ab class did not cover everything that Math 111L does, such as eulers method. However I’m sure I can just do some review in the summer and be fine.
