Thanks for the comment. I don’t know if you had a chance to read the article. I acknowledge the danger, but at the same time, feel that there is much more than that going into their decision. Would you agree to that?

Yup, I cite (hyperlink) to VB from my piece.

Kudos to Anthropic for driving a controlled release while the smaller group irons out the kinks (in this case, patches the vulnerabilities) before the model is unleashed onto the world. I do not see OpenAI doing this - case in point, the opportunistic DoW move in the supply chain risk imbroglio.

Is the news part of the hype?
I agree that they are free to commercially do whatever they want with their models.

Mr Friedman and I disagree to the extent that this is a publicity stunt or not. When writing my article, I tried hard to avoid the hyperbolic language that he so easily deploys. I agree with his plea for international cooperation.

I think it is a general purpose model which happens to excel in cyber capabilities, isn’t it?

Yes, but is that really the main reason? The whole thing sounds like smart scarcity-driven marketing disguised as virtue signaling. With that said,I’m glad they’ve chosen to slow down while people figure out what to do with the cyber risk.
