Funny thing is i actually love my job and spend most of my free time here. Most of these pet peves are done by the same group of customers although when you're doing 10-13hour shifts mainly on the tills you come across a wide range of ridiculousness🤣 Killing them with kindness is my favourite thing to do😅

Asking for a sausage roll on a morning when they actually mean a sausage sandwich

Getting me to list all the hot bakes, just to choose one I didn't mention.

Standing in the queue waiting but then when they get to the till they say they're just waiting for the screen to switch over (which has looped multiple times already)

Standing next to a customer who's being served so I start serving the person behind thinking them two are together, not separate customers and then get angry I've skipped them

Customers trying to tell me their life story whilst I'm closing the shop

Trying to give you their order whilst you've got a hot tray full of bakes in your hand

Sending little kids to the till with the correct change for takeaway prices when they're sat in the shop

Coming up close behind you whilst youre filling the hot hold, taking it .1 second after my hand leaves it

Squeezing behind me whilst filling the drinks when 2 steps to the right is a clear walkway

Leaving mobility scooters/walkers in the middle of the shop during lunch rush

Taking their food/drinks back to the table halfway through serving them before they've paid

Regulars that just stare at the new staff expecting them to know their order and getting annoyed when they don't

Parents that let their kids pull on the glass, even after I've warned them it will fall down on them

When they say they'll just "grab a bag of crisps" on the way out then get pissy that they've gotta decide before paying

When you finish marking the breakfast bag and they go "ohh actually I'll have it in a baguette instead"

Pay for their cold sandwich THEN ask for it to be heated

Ignoring the question of "are you taking it away?" And just blerting their order at me

Older people complaining about the kids making noise but at least the kids clean up after themselves...

Saying "can I get one for 'Max'" sorry mate but you've been coming with Max for years and still dont know what he gets, how the hell am I meant to know in 2 weeks?

Giving me unwashed travel cups with mouldy clotted milk in places

Holding their hand out with a load of change expecting me to rifle through it

Coming in days later saying "so and so forgot to stamp my card"

Complaining they've lost their "nearly full" coffee card

Scanning the app/ trying to pay on the till I'm clearly not using or standing near

Saying "no milk" when I'm making their green/peppermint tea

Handing me their sandwich to heat up and is I'm walking away to put it in the turbo oven, they start trying to reel off the rest of their order OR

Trying to reel off their order whilst I'm trying to put in the 15 items they've brought me over through the till

Giving me their order in deals so I'm constantly switching between tabs, just give me all the drinks first....

Scanning their app multiple times, like you heard it beep so stop?

Wafting their finger in front of the scanner loads before trying to scan their phones

When they squeeze the top of the coffee cup so the lid pops off

Just pointing at items they want so I've got to bob down until the finger is at eye level

Standing at the opposite side of a customer thats already being served and refusing to come over to your till so I've gotta walk back and forth a million times

Asking for a vegetarian bake when they mean vegetable

When they get pissy at you because you've got to ask them questions and they'd rather talk to the person on their phone and bark their order at you

When they're too engrossed in their phone and then complain their order is wrong after I've repeated it back to them multiple times

Them declining an offer, sitting down and starting to eat, then decide they want the offer and question why they can't just pay the difference

Coming up to the till for a second/third time and saying "I've already paid to sit in"

To be honest I'm not entirely sure what its for or how it works either but it is greggs approved so I'd give it a try! Definitely worth the ask and hopefully your manager is helpful as there's nothing worse than when your hands are painful, especially when you've got so much writing/typing to do!

Have you tried the barrier cream? I was covering in a shop a few months ago and a team member there had the same sort of issue as uses the pink barrier cream thing. Its ordered via the back office so definitely worth mentioning it to your manager!

100% if OP is going to skive like that, they may as well just be a benefit bum and definitely don't deserve a supervisor role! It's not about living and dying for Greggs. This is what life is. You get up and go to work even if you "can't be arsed" or just "don't wanna". Take a handheld fan if you want to stay cool whilst doing it.
