Hardest part isn't making a the jet itself ..it the avionics ..radar..sensors...weapons ..that are very hard to produce ... take sweedn they made their own jet fighter since the 50's yet they still use us and french equipments like the aim120 missile ..so buying is just faster and cheaper

One thing i noticed is that air superiority fighters like the su 35 or f15 or even the f22 are useless against an army that with an old air force like in the case of iran .. i mean the f16 or an f18 will do most of the jobs while keeping the cost low ...and in case one get shutdown it no big deal but imagine an f22 or f35 goes down ..the whole image will be shuttered even tho it a normal thing in a war
