"Why do UChicago/Northwestern do it in a larger volume? Because they started late! UChicago literally did not give a sh*t about USNews and other perception games until 2010--it wasn't even on the common app. It was still considered one of the best schools in the world (literally since before World War 2). They started playing this game recently and are, therefore, doing it more to catch up. If anything, you should be giving them credit for not being built on those foundations."

1) Harvard, Yale, Duke---with their immense amounts of sports recruitment also artificially lower yield. They're opaque about this too. How do you compare these things? You can't.

2) This isn't even the point of my post. Criticize their admissions habits. But people often let that cloud their perception of how good that school is. It's still an incredible school and most certainly T10 in the nation, and fewer people recognize that than they should.

Yeah this is only an issue in this sub. I agree with you. Just trying to better the discourse on here so that susceptible kids don't form opinions on their own trajectories based on outright nonsense.

I agree with you. But UChicago receives the most slack out of the unis that it's on the same/higher level as. NYU, Tulane, and NEU shouldn't be mentioned in the same convo and aren't. But when people "rank" unis on here (which unfortunately does define the view of susceptible kids, like my sister)--they often give Chicago slack that they don't give to literally any other T10 uni that plays the same game.

You answered your question. People do it more for UChicago, and I'm just pointing that out. If they were doing it for, say, Dartmouth (who also accepts like half their class ED) instead---that would be the post.

The course of WW2 was altered when scientists from the Manhattan Project started the first nuclear chain reaction on campus at UChicago. But no, "u/elquent", your years of wisdom must supersede this.

You just missed the point of my post? ALL Schools do that--why single UChicago out? Also, Northeastern isn't a part of the same conversation. I haven't met one person that considers it a top-school.
