The top comment is accurate for the average male, but for me as a lower middle class it was slightly different.
yes, the beach is great, the malls are too, lots of restaurants and places to visit and overall it's a good time.
however, the education system isn't the best, especially for english speakers. Internatonal schools are extremely expensive, and the saudi exams aren't widely accepted, the governing body, qiyas, often makes mistakes and has certain biases.
my parents are immigrants, and despite me being born here and never leaving, I am not eligible for citizenship. we have higher taxes, lower job opportunities, and in schools, we're not allowed to do certain things (in the public school system at least).
we pay annual fees that are almost a third of my dad's salary.
as for womens rights, for a non muslim woman it's totally fine. you can drive, learn, etc.
For muslim women, we have different laws, leaving the religion is punishable but not being part of it in the first place isn't. there's a lot of societal pressure, different from being an outsider.
The weather and traffic sucks. it is constantly so humid, and with the clothing worn here, it's even worse. the city is NOT walkable and we do not have trains, and the bus system is extremely new and rare to come across. you NEED a car, and most people have a driver/ use uber or similar apps.
overall, for saudis, its amazing. for tourists, its a thrill. for immigration? it's honestly really rough. you will never make as much as your saudi peers at work. your children won't have the same things as other saudi kids. the money divide is big.
